Does anyone know?

I may have mentioned this before:  I have both multiple sclerosis and reflex sympathetic dystrophy.  Today I had to face and brain and spinal MRI, to help figure out some strange symptoms I've been having lately.

I don't have any new lesions, but my rsd is advancing.  However,  my symptoms are mimicking an MS relapse.   I can't find anything definite on the Internet,  so I thought I'd ask the group.   Do you if one chronic condition can influence another?

You are the only one I know with RSD. A friend of mine's son is doing a bike trip reaise money for RSD. He is riding the Great Divide with a friend by themselves.

Diffuse medically means spread out, not in one location. I do not know if that helps.

I no longer worry what disease causes what symptom I just treat the symptoms. The truth is sometimes the doctors do not know. Sometimes it is clear sometimes it is not.

So, now my doctors think that the problems were due to "diffuse" demyelination.  Not sure what that means.

Ess:  I hope you can that infection under control.   For me, steroids are a last resort.

Alex:  I guess it makes sense, that anything that puts stress on our systems can make ms act up.  But it's sure confusing.

My Cancer gets my MS going. It is hard to tell which is which at some points. I am having more MS Symptoms right now that I have been in treatment for Cancer for 9 months.

In a way we get face MRIs. That magnet scans our sinuses and shows big scary bulging eyeballs :-)  Then there's that weird opening that must be the esophagus, creepy to say the least. Is it Halloween time yet? I'll dress up as an MRI.

Oh absolutely, one chronic condition can influence another. I'm a good case in point. I'm dealing with much-worsening allergies (who knows why?), which have caused major congestion and other issues all winter, which then caused a major sinus infection I'm dealing with now, which has caused an MS relapse. It's like a cascade. On top of that, in the midst of this my neuro put me on 5 days IV steroids. That seemed reasonable before I knew I had an infection, but now I realize that was possibly a really bad move. Steroids wipe out the immune response, letting the infection take over. So here I sit, shivering and sweating at the same time, plus lots of other fun stuff. Tomorrow I see my ENT, and I hope he does more for me than that obnoxious substitute primary care person I saw yesterday.

Sorry to go off on a tangent like that, though it does give a real-time example of how our bodies don't act in a vacuum, but are subject to all kinds of influences, many of which are bad news.

thank you for correcting that - I was wondering what a face MRI might show.... gotta love the autocorrect.

I'm sorry but I don't know how the two of them play off of each other.  I hope someone else can help you ....
