Does spasticity hurt?

Does spasticity hurt?

I have been having some pain that feels a little like tight/overused muscles, but I'm pretty sure the pain isn't from overexertion.  I feel it on the inside of my left thigh and the "pad" below my thumb on my left hand and too a lesser extent in my left arm.

The pain seemed to come out of nowhere.  But it also has been at the same time I'm feeling more weakness in my arm and leg.  Is this spasticity or something else?

Oh yes!!!, it can hurt very badly at times. I experience it all the time anymore, and it is rarely without pain. As that muscles continuously works, it can really get to you. Having the muscles being spastic really can wear you down as well. Some days I won't make it out of the car, when I get home from work, without taking a nap.

It could be something else, but it's been my experience that what symptoms you have described, fits my spasticity.

i think i'm getting a better picture of just what spasticity is for us folks.

my image was of the meaning of the word was like that reed richards of the fantastic 4.

i didn't realize it could be rigid muscles and such also. from my perspective it can be very painful adn tiring. a real beat down, if you will.

thanks for more insight into an elusive image i've had ...

I just read that spasticity is the most common MS symptom and up to 75% of us experience it in one form or another .  The spasticity keeps our muscles from moving fluidly.  And yes, it can be painful.

There are meds that can help with the spasticity - the most common used is Baclofen.  Have you talked to your neuro about this?  Be sure you do and get treatment - you don't have to tough it out!

be well, Lulu

Thanks everyone.  I do need to make an appointment with my neuro.  I always end up feeling like it's nothing, but my leg is stiff, heavy, painful at times, and like Lulu said, I can't move it "fluidly."

one more hting to do....
