MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS COMMUNITY
Does this happen to anyone?

Does this happen to anyone?

Use it and hurt it?

Last night, I made a poster (not a very good one) for something at my son's school. I normally do not write at all because I lose the ability to form legible words after a few lines, so I guess I don't use pens much any more. Anyway...I spent a lot of time going over the lettering several times with a marker.

Woke up in the middle of the night with PINS AND NEEDLES. Not just tingling, but like someone was poking about a billion pins and needles into my right hand, just along where you use your hand to write. No position would make it go away. It lasted a couple of hours, and today has faded to something pretty tolerable.

I get this kind of reaction with my legs when I walk or stand a lot, and if I type a lot, my hands hurt, but I've never gotten this pins and needles thing.

Anyone else get the "pain with use" syndrome?

Well, I get "pain with use" when I write, chop vegetables, grip the steering wheel too firmly, etc.

I don't get pins and needles poking me; I think of it more as glowing nerve pain.  Mine can go all the way up my forearm.

I saw my MS specialist once when it was really bad.  She had me walking up and down the hall, and asked why I was holding my hand out from my side so awkwardly.  I told her it was because it hurt, and described what it felt like and what aggravates it.

That was the infamous visit where I was seen during a flare but my chart notes didn't reflect it; the arm pain wasn't mentioned.  She did tell me to increase my Lyrica by 50 mg. a day, maybe 100mg.  I increased it 50 mg., and it did seem to help.

Then I chopped some veggies a couple of days ago for some lentil soup and it started glowing again.  I saw a physical therapist this morning, who worked on my neck, thoracic, and shoulders, and the pain has really calmed down.

My neuro and one PT think it's from my cervical spine, another PT thinks its from a postural thing .  All I know is it hurts like heck.

I hope you don't experience this sort of PINS AND NEEDLES pain very often.

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing the pins and needles.
I have constant tingling in my right hand that definately goes into severe pins and needles after I use it too much.  It is getting worse and is now happening in my feet. I have had a very stressful couple of days and today I can barely even walk because I am stuck in pins and needles.
I am doing the MS Walk on Sat too so I sure hope this stops tonight or tomorrow.
I did just start taking Rebif for my MS and the nurse said I will notice my MS symptoms flaring up more for the first couple of months until I am on the full dose and getting used to the med.
My neuro upped my Gabapentin last time and I am sure will be either doing so again soon or switching me to Lyrica.

I do hope you don't have to deal with this often.

I get flashes of pins and needles when I'm exercising.  Areas of my back will suddenly go PING! and it feels like somebody jabbed me with a whole bunch of needles all around the small of my back.  It also happens around the knuckles of my hand.

I've also had it happen when I'm working in the yard, so maybe it's related to exertion and heat.
