Donating blood

I use to give blood twice a year and haven't done so  for atleast three years now.

Is it safe to donate blood?

I gave blood last summer - I felt like c rap for about a day after.  I can't even tell you exactly  how - it was kind of like I was starting to get the flu but also an out of body experience feeling.

I told my neuro about this and he said there was absolutely no connection between the two and said more of us should donate because blood is always needed.

Since you were once a regular donor, perhaps you want to try it again and see what happens?   Let us know if you go ahead, ok?  I would love to hear your reaction, if any.

be well,
Lulu

John,

Before my first relapse of symptoms and getting sick, I worked at a hospital and was donating blood.  One time, I could not donate because I was slightly anemic.

The other times though, oh boy, during and after giving blood I felt like I was in la-la land, extremely dizzy, blurred vision etc.

I stopped giving blood because of this.  Now, I know this was almost like an exacerbation of symptoms.

Yes, from the standpoint of MS.  MS is not a contraindication.  However, iron-deficiency anemia, even mild, will exacerbate many of the more systemic MS symptoms like cognitive dysfunction and fatigue.
