Don't feel hungry any more...

This is a weird one.  Not that I'm complaining, mind you - even with the lack of appetite, I'm still having trouble losing weight.  I went without food yesterday until my stomach started to make weird grumbling noises.  But no hunger pangs!

So not being hungry means that I eat apples and carrots all day, because nothing else sounds good.

The good news is that my thyroid is fine, and I'm perfectly healthy when it comes to cholesterol and triglycerides and whatnot.  So any problems I'm having losing weight are my fault!

So here's my question - if we aren't hungry and don't really eat, even with little to no excercise why can't we lose weight? I am even on Topamax which is supposed to help you lose weight and it is not helping, I eat like a bird anymore because like you I eat out of "Oh yeah I forgot to eat I better munch on something today!"

Sorry didn't mean to answer you with a question but I am at a loss also, I am considered "morbidly obese" so was very excited when she put me on a headache preventative that had a side effect of weight loss - too bad I loss 10 Lbs then nothing. I eat half if not even less of what I used to and do get some excercise.

I would love to see what some of our other expert members have to say on this.

I am losing weight, albeit slowly, so it's reassuring when I eat 1200 calories a day and lose weight.  I think I've lost a couple of pounds in the last couple of weeks.

I have the same problem with no appetite, however I am one who cannot afford this as I am extremely thin, or more properly, underweight.

I never feel hungry and don't get any of those signs of hunger: headache, irritability or a growling stomach.

I have to force myself to eat. What makes it even worse is that I don't like sweets and basically eat a low fat diet. I put mayo on some things just to add calories.

At work, one on one conversations always end up with joking about "swapping" where I take someone's excess weight, with the caveat that we get to choose exactly where on our bodies the weight goes on or off!

If you are wanting to lose weight, I hope this works for you!

I have no appetite for the past three months?  I'm loosing weight slowly, and I find when I start to feel bad or get grumpy it's time to eat something.  And I'll have some yogart or toast with peanut butter.   Then I feel better, but still no appetite?

I wonder if it's from meds?  I'm on Amantadine, and Gabapentin?

oh well, I told the Dr and they said I'm OK with bloodwork, they check it.

take care

Okay, I've had one hungry moment since I posted this, so things aren't completely numb - that's a relief.  But my stomach's definitely shrunk.  And I've gained four pounds unexpectedly.  I'm hoping it's because I'm back on the pill and it's water weight gain...

Hi Jen. I too have had odd things with my appetite. I don't feel hungry that often, sometimes not the whole day. (So why don't I lose weight!?)

I do eat a big, protein-filled breakfast--yogurt and cottage cheese or "scrambled eggs" made from egg whites--and don't start feeling any hunger until about 4 pm, if then.

I remember years ago I'd have times of getting very sudden, very intense hunger pangs that were actually painful, just out of the blue.

I also remember times when I'd eat a big meal, like a big plateful of stew, and then before leaving the table would feel extremely hungry again. I'd eat another plateful and then STILL feel hungry after a bit, even though there was no possible way I could have been hungry.

It's pretty weird... and another weird thing is that if I go most of the day without eating, or eating only tiny amounts, after about 7-8 hours I will feel GREAT--the achiness and dizziness and brain fog improve hugely. (So again... WHY do I eat, when eating makes me feel achy and gain weight? :)

Yeah, I feel better when I just eat an apple or carrots during the day... I end up eating a full meal at night because I don't want my hubby to worry - but really I'd be happy with popcorn or something.

And yet I'm not losing weight either!  But two of those mysterious four pounds are gone, so I guess it was water.
