Double Whammy/ Upper and Lower GI Yesterday

I had an upper and lower GI test yesterday.

They found two polyps on my colon, which they removed and are testing for cancer.   They also found that my esophagus was pretty eaten up with GERD.

I slept from 11 am until 9:45 am this morning, with a little break to eat a little soup last evening.

My lower back hurts and I am running a low grade temperature, but I guess this is to be expected.

We can form our own club:

I'm convinced the doc meets himself going down and up and then has a square dance.

The Toob to the Boob up the Bum Club.

You can do better.  I used up all my creativity on the 6-word post.  lol

I'm sorry you had to go through that test. My mother had to go through the same test. She has alot of upper GI problems because of GERD and peptic ulcer disease which is complicated by her Sjogrens. She described the test as being "roter rooter from the insided" or "an evasive form of body floss". It really took alot out of her for several days.

I'm glad they did DX your GERD. It can cause alot of problems if not properly treated. They found polyps during my mother's test also. It was good that they found and removed them during my mother's test because they could have turned into cancer if they would have been left in.

Keep us posted and I hope you feel better!

I have only had the upper GI thingy done, and that was unpleasant enough!  My husband, however has been through the mill with GERD, so far as to have to have part of his esophagus removed (eaten away from the acid), Please ask your GI about "Protonix" it comes in a generic forrm (I forget the name) and is actually better (according to my husbands GI), than the nexium, also with fewer side effects.

Good luck! and glad to see you back as well!

GERD is gastro-esophagial reflex disease.   It basically is where acid reflux damages your esophagus.

DJ, I am doing much better today.   I got some more rest last night which helped!

Thanks for all of your concerns and prayers!   They help!

What's a GERD?  Sounds like a weird soup?  I hope that's not serious?  I too had some polyps removed (3) and I am now on 3 year checks but I ran a low grade temp too but on my brochure that I received you were to ring the hospital if you had a temp?  So watch it and if it rises I would ring, or ring them anyway, that's what they are paid for to take care of you, preventive health is important, why wait until it's too late and you are seriously ill.

Lets hope your polyps are just the bubby ones that aren't cancerous or too much to worry about.

Take care,
Udkas.

I think they called in a prescription for nexium or one of those kind of thing-a-ma-jigs.   But, I haven't wandered by the pharmacy to check yet.   I was way out of it when he was babbling about that.

I am definitely weak from the experience, but luckily the fever is gone.

My cryptic humor module hasn't come back on line yet, but I'll let you know when it does!

Well, now, isn't that enough to  make one feel quite violated...good thing they knock us out, huh?  The low grad fever is not to be expected - as far as I know, unless they told you that.  Be sure to let them know if it rises or persists.

Yes, you will need a stomach acid reducer for the esophagitis.  This in turn will lower your ability to absorb B12 from the diet so that will have to be watched.

It IS good to see you back.  Your are our main source of cryptic humor.  ;))

Welcome to the fun world of GI medicine - I hope you like that doctor!  I really do like mine.  Be sure that you keep very quiet the next few days while the polyp areas heal.  I have a friend who thought no big deal and ended up in the ER because of extensive bleeding.

Did they stick you on a PPI for the GERD's?  I am on prevacid for mine even though  I don't think that's my problem.

glad to see you around here - everyone was starting to be concerned.

Don't be a stranger,
Lulu

Ugh. Those tests (and the prep!) are not fun. I've had an enormous "bad" polyp--carpet-like, about three inches across--removed. Now I have to have colonoscopies every three years.

What are they going to do about the GERD?

Ouch!!  I know you're glad that's over, though.

I'm praying for the test to come back with good news.

Sleep does you good, I'm glad you managed to sleep that long.  I was getting worried about you I must admit.

Hope that back pain goes away soon and you're back to feeling your old chipper self.

Sure do miss you around here!!

Love & Hugs
