Droopy Eye Lid

My new neuro noticed my left upper eye lid drooped closer to my pupil than my right. The day that she noticed it, I didn't put on makeup so I had no idea. Really it's not that noticable unless your looking for it. A couple of days later, my eye lid returned to normal position but I have noticed since then (because I'm paying more attention now) that some days it's normal and some days it's droopy. What could cause this? Anybody else out there have this problem?

{{{anybody got a toothpick for my tired eye}}} LOL

My left eyelid is droopy and at first it only happened when I had an icepick type pain in my right temple but now it doesn't seem to matter if I have the pain or not.  It has been incredibly hot here for the last three days and this morning when I got up my eyelid was making it difficult to see which hasn't happened before but I have not been having any icepick pain...just feeling really crappy with the heat.  I have been diagnosed with Raeder's Syndrome (Paratrigeminal Neuralgia) and the pain on one side with the droopy eyelid on the other side is the main symptom of this syndrome.
Because you don't mention any pain I don't thing that this could be related but it might come in handy for reference in the future...ya just never know do ya?  hehe

Yeah you never can tell with us but I did noticed my eye was twitching like crazy not that long ago. It was driving me nuts (which isn't a far drive lol). It finally stopped but I'm left with the droopy eye, but at least I have no pain. I did noticed when I went outside and got hot, my eye would droop, but would go back to normal, later when I went back in. I don't know if it was a coincidence or not.

Take Care

I just wanted to add that the only pain I have is on the opposite side due to my lock jaw problem. It's not locked up anymore but is still very stiff to move and is still very painful to open.

I had the eye twitching after the onset of symptoms, but finally it went away for the most part, but I still see/feel it from time to time.  At first it was violent twitching around both eyes.  I could visually see the nerves around my eyes and even down my face jumping around.  Now it is just a twitching here and there.  None of my doctors have ever explained to me what was causing this, so I still don't know.  Just like most of my symptoms they are still a mystery!!!!!

I haven't had a problem with eyelid drooping but  at the start one eye looked like it was open more than the other.  At least that's how it looked to me.  I asked everyone else, including my eye doctors and neuro and they all said they were the same.  I thought maybe it was just the visual field defect making it appear this way to me!

I wish I could still wear eye make-up, I miss wearing it.  I can't stand to wear it anymore because it irritates my dry eye, Meibomianitis, and blepharitis and causes it to worsen.  I even tried the hypo-allerginic kind, but can't stand the effects of the pain and swelling of my eyelids it causes.

Maybe one day this stuff will stabalize and I can put on my war paint again, LOL!!!!!!!! That is what my daddy always called make-up!!!!

Hugs,

My sister has a permanent droopy eyelid on the left side. Her mouth also droops a little on that side and she has drop foot on that side.  She looks like she's had a stroke, but her MRI's are more consistent with MS according to her neuro (which she was diagnosed with).

Your eyelid can sag intermittently if the nerve to the lid is mildly damaged and eventually fatigues.  Remember that there are muscles involved with keeping the eyes open all day.  They can finally fatigue and droop.  Eyelid drooping is also a sign of Myasthenia Gravis which is an autoimmune disease with antibodies against the neurotransmitter at the nerve-muscle junction.  This will affect all muscle groups eventually, but may just start with eyelids (usually both).  I just bring this up, not because I think it is likely, but because the doc might bring it up.

Years before my diagnosis, my right eyelid was visibly droopy.  It got worse during the day.  I was also having facial numbness and tingling on the right side, and kept biting my tongue on the right.  I thought I was just working too hard.  Eventually it went away... then I was diagnosed!  So it makes sense that I was having problems with the right side of my face, just didn't know it.

I have an intermittently droopy eyelid, as well.  I have no pain and was tested for thyroid problems and myasthenia gravis (sp) by my eye doctor, however (thankfully) both test results came back normal.  When the problem persisted, my eye-doctor had me contact a neurologist for testing regarding nerve-damage and other potential causes...My appointment isn't for another month, however, so I still have no idea why I have this problem...Good luck finding an answer.

Same here and they are thinking Myasthenia Gravis is possible. Cold makes it go back to its normal postion heat makes it worse. They used a cold test and I failed it. so next test is injecting meds that will bascially do the same thing, if it's MG it will go back to normal after the stuff is injected. Right now it's a wait and see game till I can get in with a neuro doc.

Tell them to also check for Parsonage Turner Syndrome, that is one doctors guess on the symptoms I am having. It's rare but it is a autoimmune disease that affects the nerves and can affect the T1 nerve to the face, and in my case the ones that go to my shoulder and arm causing severe pain in my arm.

I have a droopy eye.   I did not realize how the heat effects it until we went to Tucsan for a weekend and saw pictures of myself.   I looked awful.  I have tested negative for myasthenia gravis.  I am being tested tomorrow for a version of myasthenia gravis called "musk".  It appears to be a complex blood test, that can only be done by certain labs.  I also have an appointment with a MS specialist to see what she thinks.   My right eye is always droopy, but not really noticeable, more like I just always look tired.  My other eye swells on occasion, but returns to normal, my face also swells.
Good luck to you, let us know how the test works out.
I'll be happy to have an answer soon.

Hello,

What did your Neuro do to correct your droppy eyelid?

I don't think they can correct a drooping eyelid because it is neurological. They could give you steroids if it is caused by inflammation that might help it go away when the inflammation goes down. Otherwise it goes away on its own if it the temporary or stays if it is not.
