Duration of Optic Neuritis

by hbananas, Sep 24, 2009 09:45AM
Hi, it's me again.  Yesterday my bad eye, the one with the little scotoma, was slightly blurry.  Last night I couldn't get to sleep, so I spent a couple of hours reading in bed.  This morning I woke up with the same amount of blurriness, and some eye pain.  I don't want to run to the neurologist or the neuro-ophthalmalogist prematurely, especially since I have been to the neuro twice with other mild, vague symptoms in recent months--the new paresthesia in May and the dizziness in August.

I have a few days to keep an eye on this, right?  (Wink, wink!)  I mean if I have ON, it should still hurt tomorrow, shouldn't it?  And if it's just eye strain from too much reading in bed, a good night of rest should cure it.  It's the old "if it's something I want them to catch it" versus "I don't want to be a hypochondriac" conundrum.  As always, thanks for the sound advice.

I think the wise advice would be to call the doctor.  That said, I've been experiencing intermittent blurriness in both eyes (not at the same time) for a number of months now.  It's gotten worse, but always goes away, so I haven't called.  :}

But, if it's lasted for most of the day and you're having pain, I'd definitely call.

How are you feeling now?

Hi hb, you can put off going to the doctor as long as you want for ON.  The fact is however your ON is going to resolve, it will get to that point with or without treatment.

The difference is steroids will help you get to that point sooner.

waiting is ok.  You are not going to do any harm.

my best,
Lulu

Yep, it was a hypochondriac attack.  Eye didn't hurt the next day, so I'm glad I didn't call either of the doctors.
