I actually wonder about the ordering of this secondary test before he saw you unless he had access to the majority of your medical info and knew that he needed to rule out a neuromuscular disorder. An EMG is not used to diagnose MS. Rather it is useful in determining that there is some primary damage to the muscles, which there wouldn't be in MS. If the EMG is positive they know to look for other things, but it does not rule out MS. Weakness in the muscles with a negative EMG, on the other hand, points more toward a central cause, such as MS.
To know whether this seems to be an appropriate test to run before he even sees you, we need to what your symptoms and problems are and what workup you have already had.
Did you already tell us your story for me to print out? If so, I'll go look for it.

I don't know about using EMG results to diagnose MS, but my neuro did the EMG/NCV at my second appointment. He wanted to look for peripheral causes to my symptoms.
I don't think it would hurt to have it done initially. Does your neuro know any of your symptoms at this point?
