Evoked Potential

I keep reading posts about evoked potentials.  Neither of the neurologists I have seen has even mentioned these tests??? Do you present with certain symptoms that lead to these tests?  Are they necessary for a diagnosis?

Just wondering why my docs don't suggest them,

Sherry

Hi, Sherry (Ruth, lol), it is so good to see you back here!  The EPs are supportive tests only.  When the H & P, the MRI and sometimes the LP just don't give enough evidence for a diagnosis, they will go to the EPs.  The exception is when there are visual symptoms, the MRI doesn't show ON and the physical exam doesn't show changes in the otpic nerve, a VEP will be ordered early.

I have never had an EP.

You make me laugh!!!  Ruth is a very strong, faithful name and I will wear it proudly.

We've been on a mini school break for the last two days, so I've been able to participate a little more on the forum  It moves so fast on here that I have trouble keeping up, especially when I'm foggy.  I'm always lurking . . . I'm just falling behind the pack.
