I was told that it is possible. That a positive one is a link in the puzzle, and a negative one means that you need to keep looking.

BUT, I still have questions about this myself, as mine was negative as well.

What on earth are those things used to diagnose? Nerve conduction?

It was as if after my Evoked Potentials came back fine that my last neuro dropped me like a hot potatoe... even though I still have quite a few problems. I still remember him grabbing the results off the fax, reading them and then saying, Oh, you are fine, they are ok.

Are they like the ultimate test.... and if they are ok then nothing can be wrong with you? Or are there other tests that can be run that will show that something is wrong and this isn't all in my head..... oh dear, I'm sorry LE1212, I didn't mean to ramble on, I apologize and blame my migraine, I should get off of here before I say something dumb while my head hurts too bad. I hope other's will drop in to answer our questions....

My neurologist says that the lesions in my spine are messing with conduction enough to give me paresthesias, but not enough to affect the SSER.  So, like Sunny says, it's just more evidence to pile on if it's positive, but negative doesn't mean no.

Sunny, my Dr dropped me too. when even if I don't have MS I certainly have some other neuro problem going on. He referred me to Mayo clinic, I have an appointment with a MS specialist on Mon. I'll see what he has to say.

Bananans, I have non specific lesions in brain mri and paresthesias in several places. SO maybe we have similar circumstances. I really have mild symptoms compared to many.

Hi my EVPs for vision and auditory were normal.  Only one area of mild weakness showed in the sensory EVP.  My MRI has lesions in two separate areas of the brain.  I am waiting on the results of neuro/psych eval.  I can tell you it isn't going to be pretty.  The neuro/psych can assist in determining what part of the brain lesions may be in.  At least that is my understanding.  So I am not a dr or expert but it would seem to me the answer would be yes they (EVPs) can be normal and you still have MS.  My neuro did not rule out MS when he got the results of mine EVPs. As to the purpose just Google evoked potentials there is a lot of good info out there.  Hope this helps.
