Make sure it's a opthamologist. A opthamologist is educated in diseases that effect the eye. A optometrist is better for eye exams and giving you corrective lenses.

A opthamologist is a specialist for the eyes. Go with the specialist! Make sure it's a opthamologist!

Thank you for your helpful comments.

I saw the neuro on  Friday 4th July, he said I should get an appointment within two months and he will see me again in three months,so I am just waiting for my appointment.

I will look up and see where my local optometrist or opthamologist is and make an appointment.

Depending upon the strength of the MRI, it may not show everything.  Optic nerve demyelination is hard to pick up, even with an experienced radiologist looking at your films.  It does sound like optic neuritis, and there's not much to be done for that, unfortunately.  I hear that IV steroids are better at keeping it from returning than the oral steroid.

If your vision becomes permanently doubled, there are prism lenses you can get to correct the problem.

When are you scheduled to get that MRI?  I think that if you can also get into see an Opthamologist it would be to your benefit.

I doubt that looking into your eye with a flashlight (torch) is going to tell any doctor about whether or not you have Optic Neuritis...I believe that the best way is to look at the optic nerve via the MRI but you might want to call your neuro before the MRI and let him know that you are still having problems with your eye and you would like it to be looked at when the MRI is done.

I hope you get some relief soon honey...there is nothing worse than having a problem with our eyes and it is important that you have this looked into...after all we only have one set of eyes and we need to look after them right?

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

If you are having eye pain, I would not wait for your MRI. You need to see an opthamologist and be evaluated. Explain to the opthamologist your symptoms, including the ones that don't have to do with the eyes. I'm not sure how long you have to wait for your MRI but I wouldn't put it off.

An opthamologist can help with a diagnosis and would be able to tell if your eye symptoms are related to what's going on in your body.

I went to a Neuro Optho...over a year ago, but didn't have the pain behind my eye then.

Hi honey...sorry to hear about that awful pain you are having behind your eye.  I have to agree with slightlybroken in that you should see an Opthalmologist.  They have the equipment and the know how to discern whether or not you have Optic Neuritis or not.  However, it is rather strange that the Neurologist didn't see it on an MRI...or did he do an MRI???  In my opinion, you should go back to the Neurologist if he didn't do an MRI and state that you are concerned that it may be Optic Neuritis and that the eye doctor wasn't able to find anything so perhaps an MRI would be in order???  Other than that honey, I am not sure what it would be besides a possible migraine condition.  They apparently can occur behind the eye and can be quite debilitating.

I suggest either way to see the neurologist again if at all possible honey...please let us know what you decide and the outcome ok?  We are very interested in your results and we want to ensure that you are getting some results ok?

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

Have you gone to an opthamologist? There is a big difference between an optometrist and an opthamologist. What test have they done?

It's hard to say what's going on (it depends to, on what test they have done to get to the bottom of your problem) but I suggest going to a good opthamologist to be evaluated. The eyes are something you don't want to mess with as far as letting it go.

Remember that you can still have optical neuritis further back on the nerve and it won't be detected by looking at your eyes.
