Eye exam for nerve damage

Last week I had to go for my vision field test.  It still shows problems with center vision in both eyes.  I had the typical vision field test on the big machine that reminds me of an egg.

The eye doctor did an eye pressure test and another type of test to see if I have any nerve damage.

In the nerve test machine I had to look at a dot to the left with my right eye.  There were dots in a pattern that swirled around and the machine would take a picture of my eye while I was watching the dots.

In my right eye some of the dots in the pattern were missing.

With my left eye it was the same process but in reverse.

My right eye showed nerve damage that corresponded with the vision field test.

My left eye did not show nerve damage but I still have some central vision loss.

After the awful experience I had with the MS doctor it was great to have something measurable to let me know I am not crazy.

My right eye has had ON at least twice.  I am waiting on my appointment with another neuro to get set up.

Anyway, I thought this new test I took was interesting.

Hi Mary,
It was measuring optic nerve damage.  It didn't bother me because I did not have to look directly at the swirling dots and the test took about 15 seconds for each eye.

I understand about wondering if you have seen a dot or not on the vision field test.
That test is very tiring.

That does sound interesting.  I had a visual field test in December.  Oh Lordy.  Was that a light?  Not?  Don't look at it.  Eye on the dot.  Then it seemed like my thumb got trigger happy, pressing twice sometimes and refusing to move other times.  I got to feeling like I was detached and watching my body carry on.  Guess I won't be auditioning for Jeopardy.  lol

Can't imagine the swirly dot testing.  Sounds tiring.  I'm thinking it would make me dizzy.

Totally understand the relief at having a test actually reflect the deficit you KNOW is there.  Was it measuring optic nerve damage?
