Fed up with MS. Can I just drop out?

I was about to submit a post expressing my frustration and stress this week and how much I just wanted to quit MS  but after reading what I wrote decided that it wouldn't be very nice to bother all you nice people with my whining.  Instead I went to the fridge, sliced up some cheddar cheese and poured a glass of wine because we all know that cheese goes well with "whine".

I feel better now, but I still want to quit MS.  I've had enough and just when I think things are under control and life can become a routine again, something has to crop up and spoil it.  Just one example and I'll stop the whining.

Here's the scenario...Prescribed gabapentin to help with the nerve pain.  Developed swelling in legs and feet and PCP prescribed lasix thinking the gab is the culprit.  Then potassium levels were low on my recent test and so I was prescribed potassium chloride.  Now my tummy is hurting in acid reflux is worse, so PCP prescribed nexium.  All this from one medication, if that is truly to blame, who knows.

OK, I'm all done complaining.  It feels good to get it out because I don't really have anyone else to complain to.  I know I'm not the only one here going through this.

Thanks for listening.

Julie

You can't resign from this position you hold, unfortunately.  Has you doctor considered trying something other than gabapenin for the nerve pain?  There may be something else that doesn't have this side effect.

Lasix is one of those essential drugs but it sure can create havoc on our body systems.

hang in there, lulu

Sorry Julie,
I've got dibs on quitting this MS game!!!!!

As for the chocolate , cheese and wine, I have a great substitute for the chocolate and wine, it's called Chocovine. It's a wine mixed with dutch chocolate. It's like hot chocolate (even though you serve it chilled) with a kick. Similar to a Bailey's Irish Cream. I mix it with a little bit of lowfat milk as my nightcap. :-).

I SO understand the one drug leads to another game. I take 13 meds a day. Not pills but different meds due to the one thing leads to another. 13 meds also leads to Chocvine!!!

Sorry you're having a miserable time. I'm keeping you close in my thoughts!

Lu - My PCP said today that she wants me to stay on the lasix for another 3 months and then we will re-evaluate  I'm not thrilled about still being on it, but It is working.

LA - The gabapentin is working and I am happy with staying on it.  My PCP thinks that since this med is working for me that it would be best to treat the swelling it "may" be causing and wait till we get into cooler weather if heat is really the main culprit.  I feel like a test rabbit sometimes.

Jens, there is nothing better than Dove chocolate.  I'll add that to my regime; cheese, chocolate and wine.

I hope the frustrations of health/work/ home lighten up after this week so I can get my attitude back in check.  This whole MS thing can be hard sometimes.
