Feet pain?

I posted a joural the other day explaining why I haven't been on here in awhile.  But, I'm really glad that I joined this site.  My pain tracker has definitely helped because I tend not to have a memory about when I've had pain.
My feet started acting up around Thanksgiving. But, after the fire, they have been really bad.  Every day pain, burning, tingling, etc.  It is incredbily hard to drive my stick shift.  Wal-Mart leaves me in tears.  I fake it well but, damn.
I limp noticeably, I'm sure.  I  saw neuro 2 weeks ago about it and she gave me Lexapro because I am so sensitive to meds.  Also reccommended cooling socks.  If my feet get cold, forget it!  They hurt 10x's more.  Like my hands have for years now.
I have been so angry because I have been really hoping for the best with the Betaseron.  Since I began taking it in September, I have been attacked with new vertigo (already went to ENT and had vestibular testing last month), and now the feet.
Where will this end?  I have also made an appointment with a podiatrist.  I just have to hope that there is something else wrong.  Noone sent me to him but I'm so tired of trying to explain how I hurt so bad and it is blamed on MS or Ehler's Danlos and "there is no cure".  No help seems to come of it.  I'm getting fatter from lack of movement.  UGHHH!
I know this is a rant of sorts but, okay here is finally the question.  In feet pain with MSers, is it heel pain, sole pain, top of feet?  Where exactly and what do we do about it?  What kind of things do you do at home to help?  Also, if it comes with RRMS, shouldn't it come and go and not be here all the time?
I know I said alot but so frustrated....
Thanks and lots of love and hugs to all of you,
MostlyShell

I think some of the MS symptoms stay with us, but at a much milder level most of the time.  But, I recall when I had my last flare (please know that I am still being worked up for MS) my feet would not stop burning and the pain was so bad I couldn't wear shoes.

After 2 weeks of this and and having an "I don't give a damn about you" neuologist, I finally went to another neurologist who did my second opinion and he got me started on solu-medrol right away.

Maybe you are in a flare or something else is going on, but you definitely need to see or talk to the doctor and see what he/she thinks.

Oh, by the way...compression stockings help more if you are also having leg pain. If so, then the cheapest place to find them are at drug stores in the medical supply section.  Medical supply stores have them, but expect to pay over $30 per pair.

Be well,

Julie

Hey all,

Thanks for all of your replies.
I can remember that at first, I began to complain that when I first woke up I felt like I was walking on pads or something similar.  I ignored it after awhile because it always went away.  Now, when I get up, it's like walking on hot rocks.  I literally OW OW it all the way to the alarm clock.  It does calm down some after a minute but, then the rest of the day they burn and hurt.  The burning is all over my foot and the pain tends to depend how much time I have been using them.  Like if I've been on them a great deal, which anymore is like 15 minutes or more, it feels like I've been wearing high heels all day.  But, the pain doesn't subside when I sit.  It hurts in the calves and heels, some on the front of my legs.  Hips have also been shooting pain, especially the right side.  Maybe sciatica?  My other MS symptoms have been acting up as well, so maybe I'm having a flair up, lasting way too long.  But, do we really have any days when one MS symptom isn't there?  Just be nice if I could walk without pain...
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try to find some compression socks and stretching.  I'll try anything at this point.

My feet have hurt on and off for about 10 years. The first time, I was in Atlantic City. My folks went on vacation and Mom had a heart attack there, so we all had to go to AC to be with her. I could barely walk. I chalked it up to bad shoes. It's the soles of the feet that hurts me. I just started up with that again about 3 years ago. On and off. They will hurt for a few weeks then stop possibly for months. My legs almost always hurt. Used to be they only hurt premenstrual. Can't say that anymore. It seems to help a little bit if I get into the recliner. If I can't stand it, I take a tylenol3 and that makes it bearable.

My worst pain felt like I was stepping on rocks.  It turned out that my feet were spastic - one was at the arch, and the other was at the side of the foot.  My honey hammered on them until they relaxed, but the next day they'd be back to terrible.  Eventually the spasticity went away (yay!)

What kind of feet pain are you having exactly?  Is it the whole foot or toes or bottom of feet, etc? Are you having any pain in your legs?  Is the pain constant, like when you are walking or at rest or both?  Are you taking other medications besides the Lexipro?

I'm not sure if it comes with RRMS, but one thing I do know is that it shouldn't be hanging arond for such a long time like yours is.  You doctor should definitely address this especially if it is having an impact on your daily and quality of life.

I have pain in my feet and legs. It gets pretty painful especially at night when I am trying to get to sleep.  I have a bag of tricks that I use for the pain.  My latest trick is putton on compression stockings that I was given after a surgery on my ankle a couple of years ago.  That worked surprisingly well.   Other thing I tried is tretching for 10-15 minutes a few times a day and that helps a bit.

Exercise or medication for the nerve pain, if it is caused by your nerves can be beneficial.  I hope this helped.  Others in the group will be along to offer up their adeas as well.  Hang in there.
