I would contact the local MS Society and ask for suggestions about MS specialists. I would also talk to my GP about finding an opthamologist.

If your neurologist is using terms like "white patches", and is willing to chalk them up to age, is likely not an MS specialist. Further, if any neurologist is willing to chalk anything up to age I'd replace him,her :-)

The Neuro also said if the MRI comes back with nothing then they wont bother with a lumbar puncture. he said even if i do have white patches with the MRI he would expect this with age?

Hi Kyle

Thanks for replying,  no i have not had my optic nerve examined by an opthamologist, today when the Neuro was examining my eyes it was so painful for me to focus and scrunch my eyes shut,
how do i see an opthamologist? i have no idea if the Neuro i saw was an MS specialist , i wanted to ask but  wondered if it sounded cheeky.!

Hi DA-

Not knowing is awful. Your MRI should provide more info. What you describe could be MS related, but it could be related to any of a number of other things.

Have you had your eye, optic nerve examined by an opthamologist, rather than an optometrist? Aslo, was the neurologist you saw an MS specialist?
