Gabapentin to Lyrica

Gabapentin to Lyrica

Am currently taking 300 mgs Gabapentin q 4 hrs for Trigeminal Neuralgia and now, severe neuropathy from knees to feet. While it helps with the TN, it's not helping  with the neuropathy. So, am going to try Lyrica.

My question is:  what would the same dosage of Lyrica be?

The doc just told me 100 mgs Lyrica 3X a day?

Hi and welcome. I don't have the medical knowledge to tell you the exact equivalent. However, you are on a relatively low dose of gabapentin (Neurontin). Max dose of that per day is 3600 mg.

Max dose (per manufacturer) of Lyrica is 600 mg/day. If you have few side effects from Neurontin, you might ask your doctor just to increase that, before switching. Both can cause weight gain :-(

Thank you! Since I couldn't handle the increase of 400 mgs from 300 mgs my neuro recently prescribed (my symptoms seemed to get worse), thought I should try Lyrica? Weight gain is not a problem for me, thankfully ;-)

HI,
I just wanted to add my welcome to Ess'. I'm glad you found our forum. We have  wonderful folks here that will do  their best to answer your questions but none of us are MD's with one exception.

In the upper right hand corner of the page you will find our Health Pages. They are next to the yellow icon and contain a wealth of information on a variety of subjects.  There is also a "Search This Community" bar above the Recent Activity side bar. Here you can type in a question and see if there are any answers to a question in the archives.

Welcome,
ren

Gee whiz, what's up with me today...I am classic for asking a question and the answer is right under my nose.  I just asked if anyone was taking neurontin and didn't connect that gabapentin was the generic!  I would love to get additional feedback though.

I will add a welcome as well!  This is such a great community to be a part of!!  I have heard good things about Lyrica.  A good friend recently told me it has helped him tremendously deal with his Fibromyalgia and he can tell a huge difference if for whatever reason he doens't have it.

I wish you many blessings in whatever you decide.

Dear renn,

Your tips about the forum are much appreciated! Was hoping that there might be more MDs on board. But am glad to be here with others who have MS and who may be tired of living in the severe pain I've been in 24/7. Am hoping they'll share tips.

Thanks Stacie,

Am glad to know about your friend with fibro and the Lyrica. Am curious if it will we work as well with MS? We have a friend with fibro, too. But we don't know if she takes it. Maybe we should find out.
