Goosebumps?

Not sure of my Neuro. appointment yet. But I wanted to ask if this is something I should mention when I do go. This doesn't happen often but sometimes I get what seem like head to toe goosebumps! I'm not cold or anything like that. It's like they come and go so fast. I've also had spots about the size of a half dollar just goosebumps and go away and come back and go away. It's not pins and needles although I do get that, this is actual goosebumps.

I really don't wanna go in there sounding like a total nut talking about goosebumps lol I know they are normal but these that I'm getting are not normal and I thought maybe anxiety but I can be just sitting doing nothing with nothing going on and it still happens.

I have something like that, it's goosebumps and it's on my forehead, but it stays there all of the time. It is sort of itchy, but hurts when I itch it. It just appeared yesterday and I thought that it was my allergies and it would go away , but it didn't. I washed my face when I got to my grandma's house, because I was up north with my dad and obviously told my mom because dads wouldn't understand what it may be, usually. I then did some research on what it may lead to or what it is, some people said that it could be what product of makeup you were using, others said that it may lead to puberty, and also allergies. I have allergies and they never have done this. I also was out late with my cousin yesterday night and I had makeup on. Once I got home I passed out in the blowup mattress forgetting to take my makeup off. And I'm not sure when puberty will hit and I'm not willing to think about it unless weird things are happening to me. (Also I'm only 11, going to be 12 in September) So this should be fun.

I been reading these comments and looked up ms a few had mentioned and it doesn't quite sound like what I have. I have no insurance recently so I haven't seen the dr yet. Any info or advice is deeply appreciated.

Treated it for scabies... didn't solve the problem. After awhile It went away but is back again today from head to toe off and on for like 3 hours!! Really has me worrying!!! If its my nerves what did I do? I have had a sore back lately  but it don't always happen when my back aches. (Happens often I work hard lol) I'm only 21 and been heathly soo im tripping out. HELP? INFO? ANYTHING! Please share. thanks..B <3

This is a very old post I see.  However, I'm glad I'm seeing I'm not the only one who experiences it.  Goosebumps or piloerection (medical term) is controlled by our autonomic nervous system.

Unfortunately, I too, am a person who has recently since 2011 have been having this phenomenon on one limb,  left or ride side of face or even left side of scalp.  Sometimes its only my right arm or left arm.  It doesnt bother me, but I do notice it when it happens.

I also had one episode where I broke out in a sweat on one side of my body (chest area) and it saturated my grey t-shirt (sympathetic nervous system).    I also have had low heart rate as well as blood pressure (HR 36 to 55) or (BP 88/36) which would last for a few days and go away.  If it was cardiac in nature, I would think the low heart rate and blood pressure would remain on a daily basis. Therefore, going to a Cardiologist and discussing a pacemaker :).  Thus, this makes me think neurological rather than cardiogenic.  I can be wrong. Very wrong.  But who knows? The last two are related to the autonomic nervous system as well.

Now is this an autonomic dysfunction?  Sounds like it to me, but I'm no doctor.  Even though those symptoms (other than the HR and B/P low which causes me to feel truly weak and in bed) don't bother me, but yet, can't help identify them as "weird".  Something is misfiring. :D  Does it have to do with MS? Not necessarily.  I'm not even diagnosed with anything.

So, you're not alone when you mention this.

Clearly, this is not a symptom I would bring up to my Neurologist willingly for it seems I'd be overly attentive to things happening to my body.

Meg hit it on the head. There is Nothing TOO Abnormal where MS is concerned, and there aren't two of us exactly alike, but we are similar in many ways.

I always think that if something is bothering me and it's new, I tell my PCP and see what he thinks. Of course I trust Him and he listens to me. We need more Doctors like " MY Dr,Rocchi ".

So, yes, I would talk to my Dr. if I were you. and please keep us posted on what he/she has to say.

Sending love filled hugs{{{{~!~}}}} DJ

If I remember correctly, the autonomic nervous system that regulates our bodies reaction to hot and cold.  When the automonic system is damaged or when the wires get crossed, we have those odd goose bumps at the wrong time or feelings of being cold when it is hot.

Because MS involves many different types of nerves, we have nerves firing when they shouldn't.  When a muscle jumps or we have spasms.

Another MS symptom I'm afraid.  I have had them but they come and go.  Also, some of the meds reduce things like that.

Still its a strange feeling

Sometimes between the pins and needles I'm not sure how far I'm really feeling the goosebumps. I see them and it seems to happen so fast that I'm not sure what I'm feeling. Pins & needles or goosebumps or what it is. Always feeling some sort of crazy feeling in my legs. Thank GOD right now now pain or I'd lose my marbles.

I have never seen this neuro. so we'll see how he is when I go. Hopefully not an idiot where I feel I can't tell him my odd goosebump feelings :)

I have my list meg321. I just need to add this to it before I go lol

In my opinion nothing is too abnormal when dealing with MS....and I will mention anything to my DR. ,that is if I remember it.

I get this too, although I never put it together with the MS...duh! Happens in my left arm for no apparent reason. It comes and goes so fast that sometimes I think I imagined it. Good to know I'm not the only one :-o

Abnormal goose bumps can be a sign of spinal damage, in relation to MS that would be spinal lesions. Wiki has a good explanation of goose bumps, which explains it better than i probably can. Its usually a perfectly normal but useless response to any emotional stimuli or cold, anxiety is just one of many (probably the most commonly known) that produces goose bumps.

I have an abnormal pattern of goose bumps along with other signs of spinal lesions, though my spinal MRI didnt pick any up, the clinical signs are still there none the less. Yesterday i did a few hours of gardening, today my muscles are spasming and i can bearly get my cup of coffee upto my face, i look like i'm in shock or really really freezing because of it though i am nothing of the sort. As i sit here clumsily typing this, i have goose bumps coming up in 'patches' on my body, same spots each time and never my entire body, just my left side trunk or a section on my back near my bra line.

For me tremors and muscle spasms also produce patches of goose bumps too, one begets the other and it is with out a doubt 'abnormal' but it is my normal. I can't honestly say if 'head to toe' goose bumps as you describe would fit into the abnormal, for it to be a spinal sign, the goose bumps are usually in line with where the lesion is so from that understanding it may not be related to spinal but possibly related to something else.

Its an odd one to mention to your neuro, so not sure if you should or not lol sorry i couldn't be of more help.

Cheers..........JJ
