Got the mess scared out of me and had instant pain/spasm.

Got the mess scared out of me and had instant pain/spasm.

This morning I went into work, I thought someone was in the building already but figured they were up front. I went in the side door and was heading up to the front, about to turn on the light and then my co worker was right around the corner in the dark. It scared me to death! The same moment I started having either just pain or a really painful spasm in my left shoulder. It hung around for a minute. Then later today I have been having these pain and spasms again but on both shouders.
Any thing like this ever happened to you?

I had my first diaphragm spasm after crossing a busy road at night and a car did not have its lights on and almost hit me. I think adrenaline can kick off my spasms.

I was in the middle of a meeting at work (years ago) and it was pretty intense, my neck and upper shoulder started to stiffen up right then and there, and was soon out of work for 3 to 4 weeks because of it.
For me, I think that it was the stress of the meeting that made me go into spasms and stiffness.

Tensing up or making the wrong move can set me off!
Sorry to hear you are going through that, the pain is horrible.
Hugs, Pam

Pain from the diaphragm is known to refer to the shoulder (similar to how heart pain is felt in the arm or neck).  That's why people get shoulder pain after laparoscopic belly surgery.  The distension from the CO2 gas pumped in before surgery irritates the diaphragm until it is absorbed and carried away by the body.

If you slurped in a huge gulp of air when startled, your diaphragm had to contract pretty good to make sure you had plenty of O2 on board once you decided to run or scream.  I'm glad neither was necessary (or did you give it double barrel to your co-worker?).  It could be your diaphragm wasn't as happy with wasted effort and set off a series of spastic complaints throughout all day.

Hope all is forgiven and forgotten around the office today and r*e*l*a*x*e*d prevails.

I've heard that stress can trigger stuff in us but I never thought it could be that fast. I am amazed.
