Hi,
I have no dx, but just want to share that I've had similar experiences.

Not sure what to make of this!  My neuros told me it can be a GOOD sign that the sensations move around like that, or depend on position.  At the same time, my primary told me it is unlikely a back problem (which is what I thought since it changes with position) since, like you, the sensations are not localized to one area of the body.  And the whole lot of docs still can't explain it.

Anxiety as we all know can give off all kinds of signals to your body, but it sounds like you can only correlate the tingles and buzzes to position, not emotional state.

Just try and stay comfortable, though that's easier said than done.  I shake, stroll, and stretch often at work.  If I forget, my arms and legs get tingly./burny.

If I need to sit still for long, it can be uncomfortable!  I have realized this recently when I try to attend meetings, or even go to movies.  I pick seats off to the side or in the back so I have extra room.  Not looking forward to the next time I need to fly!

Hope you feel better!

Hi Terrie,

what you are describing sounds like some sort of nerve compression resulting from your position.  Like getting pins and needles or having arm or leg go to sleep.  You may be more sensitive to this cuase of the other stuff you have going on.

I am not diagnosed with anything, but I also easily get pins and needles / numbness from maintaining certain positions.

All I could suggest is making sure you move as much as possible to keep the circulation going and avoid prolonged compression anywhere.

Cheers

Sally

I have this happen a lot.  I have Restless Leg Syndrome and I thought that might be why I have those sensations in my arms and legs, but they haven't gone away with treatment.  I'm getting towards the end of the testing my new neuro ordered.  He's specifically looking for MS and to see if I have any effects from being a micro-preemie.

I have ulnar nerve compression from too many years of sleeping wonky at night and too many years as a computer programmer.

When I write or use the computer, my arm from the elbow down to the ring and pinky finger get achy.  My symptoms are bilateral, but worse on my right since I am right-handed and use the mouse with my right hand.    I also get achy pinky and ring fingers when I hold something.  When I relax my hand, it goes away quickly.

Neuro told me to wear elbow splints at night, but I don't.   Do you also wake up with your hands or fingers numb?   When you type at the computer, are your elbows supported or do you just let them "hang" (like I do)?

My legs also act up when I sit down.  My hip aches, I get tingling on the lower outside of my calves and the outside part of foot and bottom of my feet.   Standing up relieves that.
I do have issues with my lower back and hips.

Also, google the web for a "dermatome" map.   See if your leg symptoms are following a specific dermatome.  Mine do, and I was told by a PT that is a "good sign" that it's not an MS thing (but I haven't confirmed that with my neuro).

I am unsure if my current symptoms are due to that or MS (I'm un-dx'd).   My legs are worse lately, but I've been doing some exercises that I've been told I shouldn't be doing.   Physical therapist believes my symptoms are musculo-skeletal.

I asked my neuro once if I get my symptoms when I am in certain positions is that an "MS" thing or a lower back/ulnar nerve thing.  He said that an MS symptom doesn't depent on position and I would have the symptom "all the time" and not when I'm sitting or typing, etc.

Also, have you had a lumbar spine MRI?

HTH!
Take care, Pat :)

Thanks all for your comments

By the way I'm right at the being with all this so I'm un-dx

Like you HTH I let them hang but i will change that and see what happens.

I get all the tingling numbness and buzzing even when I stand or walk about it just seems worse when I'm sitting, the only time I get the burning is when there is pressure on the arm, so giving up the computer would cure it.(like that's going to happen).

I'm awaiting a neuro appointment and shall be taking my 20 pages of symptoms that I have written.

Yeah, I no longer work for a living, but I really need to give up, or at least cut down on, the computer.  It isn't going to happen here either!!!  :-)

Try changing your position at the keyboard and DON'T let them hang.  If that starts to help, then maybe try an elbow splint too.

I get certain stuff in my lower back/hips/legs/feet when I'm standing and other stuff when I'm sitting.   The standing stuff goes away when I sit and the sitting stuff goes away when I stand.   :-|

The side of legs/calf/side of both feet ache and/or tingle only when I'm sitting. Starting to hate to drive and can't wait to get where I'm going so I can stand up.

The upper inner thigh and bottom of both feet tingle only when I'm standing or walking fast.

A femoral nerve stretch always helps the thigh, but I need to stand to help the side of my leg/side of foot.   And, of course standing for a period of time bothers the bottom of both feet.

So, I'm all mixed up!!!   :-P

I see my neuro for a follow-up next Monday, so I'll see what "words of wisdom" he has this time.    Probably the same "your reflexes are normal, we'll see you in 2 months or sooner if something happens."

I've been on the computer and my right arm and pinky really aches, so I'm off....

Good luck at your appointment and I hope you can get those answers soon!

Take care, Pat :)

I also wanted to ask if you've had an EMG/NCV done on your arms and legs?   These tend to be "normal" in MS and abnormal if there is a peripheral problem.

The tingling and buzzing is unfortunately a symptom of MS, and it will get better in remission.  I've noticed that in the last few years, any sort of pressure will cause my bits to go to sleep - my fingers will go all buzzy and numb when I'm carrying a grocery sack, my wrists go numb quite quickly if they're resting on the edge of a table, my leg goes right to sleep if my legs are crossed.  So make sure that everything is ergonomic and you're not letting your elbow drag your shoulder down, or that you're not having to hold your arm up with your shoulder.

HI

I have not had anything done of yet just different tablets which have not helped.

Jensequitur have you been diagnosed with ms waiting. or are you still ?

all that you said about any sort of pressure that's spot on with me as well sorry is that a symptom of ms or something else  drrrrr  having a confused moment.

I keep thinking may be I'm  going down the wrong track and its a trapped nerve as it feels like its coming from my shoulders,

I would also like to mention about the cold areas,oh god my buttocks are like blocks off ice also the tops off both arms more so the right, my husband gets really worried,
and usually waits till I'm just drifting of to sleep to ask me if I'm OK (bless him grrrrrrrrrr),yes I'm ok "thank god for that, iv felt warmer corpses" then I laugh then I cant get of to sleep great thanks lol.

But seriously even typing my right hand is frozen, is bad blood circulation something else or another symptom of ms.

Thanks for all your advice.

Best regards

Terrie

Mornin, Terrie (or it is where I am)

I thought trapped nerve or some back problem could be to blame.  But I asked my doc several time and she explained how in order for me to have sensations from head to toe, my entire back would be messed up!  (sorry, I know 'messed up' is not the term my doc used...)

Plus I had 2 nerve conduction studies and an EMG, which as I think is noted above rules out peripheral nerve problems.

I get that both posture AND pressure can light up the weird sensations.  Holding my cell phone can hurt my hand.  Carrying my purse in one arm and lunch in the other from my car to my office makes my arms burn.  I have no diagnosis, but I can relate that these feelings are the pits!

I don't get the cold areas, but I know I've read others do experience that.  If anything, I go the other way.  my tinglies go from tingly to burning to dull pain the longer they persist.

Hope you feel better, and yes, our bodies can pull a lot of crazy tricks to make us feel all sorts of things!

Thanks for your reply wonker DEEP JOY when I read everyone's post I think oh god they are further down the line than me and still not getting anywhere and iv got all that to look forward to.

Wouldn't it be nice just to get out of bed one morning and have no pain, for an hour at least just so one can get a shower and dressed pain tingling and buzz free.

Hi sorry if I'm being a pain need to find out another problem I'm having,
The tingling buzzing I'm getting is in different places all day long but sometimes the tingling gets worse and it runs right through my body, its horrible but the worse thing is when its happening i cry i feel really stupid and don't know what to say to people.

The feeling feels like I'm  loosing control off my body it only last a little while its so horrible
If anyone  gets this (I'm sure a lot of people do) how do you cope, what do you say when it happens.

Terrie
