Hi, that is generic for Celexa... more might be familar with that name. When I was working there were many patients on Celexa and I never heard anything negative. I have not personally taken it. I just hoped if I put the name brand name you might get better responses.
Good Luck

Thanks to all, sounds like I have nothing to lose and lots to gain.
I have only just taken the second tablet today the GP has advised to start on 10mg a day and that way I can build it up if I need it. Good point about the BP too as I am currently being monitored with a view to taken meds for that too.
I will keep you all posted as to how it goes.
Thanks loads and love to all, this extra family is making such a difference to me and having friends you can ask advice of is wonderful.
Love
Pat
Good point. The SSRIs with which I'm familiar can take a while to kick in, so you might not feel the effects right away, and with depression, that can easily lead to a feeling of hopelessness or to giving up before the drugs have a chance. Rena's right; give them a little while before you make any decisions.
Best wishes.
Sorry to hear you are going through a rough time right now my dear but I hope the Citalopram will help you! I was diagnosed with depression after a neuro/psych consultation and put on this medication and I have to tell you that my results were nothing short of miraculous! Prior to taking this med my speech was slurred, had trouble with word retrieval and I stuttered and now I have no problem whatsoever unless I am really tired. My outlook has improved 100% and I am not longer having the crying jags and I am generally feeling better all around because of them. It took about two weeks of the med to really notice a difference and I am now on 20mg/daily and I am a happy camper! I think it is well worth the try and I think that improving ones state of mind can only improve ones overall health! Good luck with these and let us know how you make out will you?
Lots of Hugs,
Rena
I couldn't tolerate the drug, but I can't tolerate much of anything with the medicine I have for high blood pressure. MS can cause lots of problems with emotional liability and depression, and can make you miserable. Trying the drug would be worthwhile and may make you feel tons better. If it doesn't work, there's lots of other medicines that will help.
Thanks Dan
My GP thinks that if she can lift my soirits a little it will help, mainly because due to the emotional liability I keep crying! the moods have been pretty up and down too since my last relapse.
Thanks for the link too - I had googled it but you can't beat personal experience.
Thanks again
Pat
That's among the few SSRIs that have not been used in one branch of our family or another at one time or another, but in general, I would say that this class of drugs can be very helpful, and in the starting dosages there are usually not a lot of troublesome side effects. I'd be careful, though, not to assume that the pill alone solves the problem long-term; some form of counseling as an adjuct is very important for eventual effectiveness. Just a thought: counselors can be like neurologists (and pastors, for that matter!): there are some you'd recommend highly, and some from whom you should just walk away.
Wikepedia has a decent article about this drug; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citalopram .
