Headache won't go away

Ok well here I go again. I have this headache that won't go away. I am sure this is totally unrelated to MS but not sure if it can be related to the steroids I was on for the numb face and hand.

I have taken the steroids before and never had this headache, who knows. I just thought I would ask if the steroids can do this to me or if this is something else.

thanks,
Paula

Thanks Michelle,

The thing about the water is that I am always drinking something. You never see me without something to drink in my hand or sitting next to me so dehydration is not an issue but thanks for the input :)

heya paula,

sure hope that headache is gone by now.  i don't have much to add to everything above, but i sometimes find if i hydrate a stubborn headache enough, i get some relief, as i'm sure you already know, they can often be caused by dehydration...though i don't really think this is your problem, but maybe worth a try?   a couple of glasses of water every few hours might just be of some help?

here's hoping it's already gone anyways!

Thanks Audrey,

The liver issue is the reason I really don't take tylonol, I know the ibuprophen isn't good either but I only take it when I can't handle it anymore. Most of the time I just deal with it. I have had this headache for about 3 days now and am hoping it will go away soon.

Although with the added stress of what I found out about my mom from the doctor today can't help (I wrote a journal about it if you want to read).

My liver enzymes are lower now that I stopped taking all the meds I was on so I am working on it and losing weight to help out too.

Thank you
Paula

Paula:

Here's a good link about how to describe headaches that can help a doctor try to narrow the cause:

http://headaches.about.com/bl-how-drdiag-ache.htm

I don't know how long you've been having these headaches on a daily basis, but one thing to keep in mind is that NSAIDs (Tylenol, Advil, Aleve, etc.) loose their effectiveness when taken on a regular basis. My neuro does not want me taking these for pain because they also can cause liver (Tylenol) or stomach problems. I saw you noted something about your liver enzymes being high, so you might want to consult with your doctor or pharmacist on this.

I did go through one spell of three months where I had a headache from the time I woke in the morning until I went to bed at night. It was in both temples, but not a tension headache. On some days, I would get points of sharp pain lasting for a few seconds up to half a minute that would jump around the front of my head.

Another strange period of headaches was with a pressure type pain which would jump from temple to temple over a period of hours. It did not fit the description of a cluster headache. I've also had migraines and more recently, silent migraines.

I hope you get some answers and can free yourself from this pain.

Red, the only meds I am on are the muscle relaxers for the spasms and lyrica. He offered me more but I chose to stick with what I have for now, due to my liver enzymes being raised from all the meds I was on before.

It is actually feeling a bit better today, thank goodness cause I have to take my mom to the cardiologist for some tests and they said it will take about 2 hours. I just went and bought some tylonol, so I will alternate the two and keep it at bay at least for today so I don't have to suffer with a headache while at the doctors with my mom.

Thank you,
Paula

I usually take 800-1000 mg. of Ibuprofen with lots of caffeine for headaches.  I alternate between the Ibu and tylenol too.  Not sure if your body can take that much thought.  Do you have other pain meds for your MS you can take?

Not to be a noodge, but can you describe your headache? thant might help to pint point what type it is and what may or may not work for pain relief.

My journey includes headaches of all kinds.

I have done steroids twice (IV for 3 days with the prednisone taper). Both times I had bad headaches during all 3 days of the IVs. They gave me a medicine in my IV once, but it did not help so I never tried again.

I *did* find that Tylenol Headache Formula worked great! It just has acetaminophen along with caffeine. I was taking that pretty much every 4-5 hours during the day.

Do you think you could try that? Or, just take some regular Tylenol with a strong cup of coffee.

Sorry you have a stubborn headache! Those can wear you down :-(

I hope it goes away soon!

Jen,

Same here only oral steroids, not sure what this is. I know it is allergy season but my allergies aren't bothering me, I don't have sinus congestion or anything. If I had sinus pressure I would know it is was from allergies.

Thank you,

I've never had a headache with steroids, but I've only ever taken orals.

What have you taken?  Don't forget it's allergy season!
