Headaches and other head pains

The past week or so I have had the harshest pain in the left side of my head  four different times.  Fortunately it doesn't last long - it begins toward the back of my head and moves forward until it almost reaches my forehead. When I say it moves, it feels almost like it is ripping the topmost layer of my brain off as it progresses forward on the left side.  It is also accompanied by the sensation of the beginning of severe vertigo but it doesn't go into vertigo.  I also feel lightheaded - almost fainting type feeling while this is happening.  When it is over I don't have any lingering symptoms - no headache, no dizziness, no syncope. It is almost an out of body experience it is so intense.

Like I said, it doesn't last and it is over in less than a minute.  I'm thankful for that because it is extremely painful and I wouldn't want it to last longer!!

I have also been experiencing a pressure headache on and off on mainly my right side, across the forehead.  This headache is like a pressure being applied rather than a sharp pain, almost like a tight band being held on my head.  This headache does last, but never gets excrutiatingly painful like the left side pain but stays a dull pain.

My question for you is does either of these sound familiar?  I am on cardiac drugs that have headache listed as a side effect, BUT  I have been on these drugs for a few months and these headaches are more recent.

Do I understand correctly that headache is not associated with MS?

As always, thanks for your input!
Laura

Hi!  Happy to talk to you again.  I don't have to tell you that of us a doctors,  but from personal experience, I have had something similar.  It was not related to the MS type stuff,  it was my blood pressure and I had to have my medication changed

Your pressure headache part is what I am talking about and also that strange dizzy episode.  For me it occured if I stood up, turned my head, or  bent down, and like you said, passed pretty quickly but still was unnerving.

I have had migraines all my life,  it would be interesting to find out if headaches in some way have a connection to MS.

I have a very good friend who is diagnoised with MS and she gets severe headaches but they feel like they are in her eye and they last days.  So sounds different.

I'd contact my doc if I were you, just to be sure all is okay.

Have a good day.

Sally,
I will be talking long-distance with the neuro probably this week and will bring it up.  It is just the strangest BAM out of nowhere pain and it goes away just as fast.  BTW - I have low blood pressure, so it is not hypertension.

Neither the headache or the head pain make me stop what I'm doing and I rarely have to take aspirin or anything else for the headache.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Be well,
Laura

Strange idea - do you think it could be lingering side effects of your LP?  Didn't you have one recently?

Just a thought.  I am glad that it does not last long - that is a relief.  Add it to the list of wierd things to go thru  :)

Take care

Janette,
I did have an LP last week, but the first time this happened was before that test. I cruised through the LP with no residual problems.

It is just such a weird feeling - it literally feels like part of my brain is being peeled off.  And yes, I do know we don't feel pain in our brains! If this pain lasted long I would have to be in the ER or taken out back and shot, it is that intense.

Enjoy the day,
Laura
