Hey, All

I'll be off the forum tonight.  There is too much going on in my family and even though I am useless to help, I can't focus here.  My mom and dad were just now in a car accident, preliminary report is they (both 84) are "okay," but refusing medical care.  My sis has gone to pick them up at the scene.  I would just be a burden, so I wait and worry.  My mom has a cervical fusion and Cervial Spondylotic Myelopathy.  The last thing she needs is to get whiplash.  My Dad has a bleeding disorder and the last time he hit his head, he bled into his retina.

My niece (one of two) is down in SoCal and is the main intake officer at the Orange County Animal Shelter. Thousands of animals are being brought in becasue of the huge fires and the massive evacuations.  Her fiance is back at their apartment awaiting any evacuation orders as they are in the line of one of the advancing fires.

My baby girl, the Abbysinian, just got back from the vet with dehydration (she's in renal failure) so I'm holding her and waiting by the phone.

I hope things are better tomorrow.  Quix

Thanks for updating us, it's nothing less than a miracle they walked away from that horror.  We'll keep extra prayers going for good measure!

I posted before ready, darn, I hate it when that happens. I'm so thankful, praise God for your parents. What a horrific experience. Maybe you can encourage them to use the insurance check for their car for a nice plane trip somewhere, and not replace the car? Or put aside for taxis? When my mom was experiencing the first really bad effects of her Alzheimer;s, she went to the store 10 miles away. They lived out in the country and she had been making the drive for years, she got lost for 4 hours. My Dad was about out of his mind with worry.  She had become so good at covering up what was going on, we didn't realize just how bad she was getting. When she got home, she hung up her keys, said no more, and never drove again for the rest of her life. Fortunately she was still having lucid periods, and knew enough to know what was right. Just as an aside, she drove a 64 Nova, was the 2nd owner. I inherited the car from my Dad, and I gave it to my son last summer. It is very special to him. My Dad drove until the day he passed away at age 83. Living out in the Idaho mountains, he was worried about getting around. He fortunately didn't have to make that decision.Hopefully  you can talk to them, and after this accident they will make the right decision. Praying for you all.Maggie

My parents, sister and I thank you for the thoughts and prayers.  Everyone is still okay.  No one else was involved or hurt.  I'm still busy with family stuff and I hope to get back here for some good times tonight.  Remember I'm on Left Coast time.

You all are the Greatest!  Quix

Dear Quix,

I just got home from my trip, and I am so upset to hear that your folks were in a car accident. I am so thankful that they are ok. Their guardian angels were on the job. But yes, it is time for you and your DS to have the 'time to stop driving' talk.

God Bless your neice for the work she is doing at the Orange County Animal shelter.

I empathize with you with your little Abby in renal failure. Thats a tough thing. My 1st Yorkie wnet through it.

All of you are in my thoughs & prayers.

   Love,
        Sheila

Thank the Gods your parents are okay.  I can only imagine how frightening it was for you to have to sit by the phone and wait.  Stopping the driving is hard.  I actually chickened out and had my father's doctor turn him in as an unsafe driver, i couldn't stand having dad mad at me about it, this way the doctor took the blame.  My husband's brother is in San Diego and has all the cat carriers lined up in his living room in case the call comes through for him to leave.  This happens so often (it seems) that i would be afraid to live there.  Your kitty, and your family, are in my prayers.

I'm so glad everyone is okay although understandable to be in shock after a horrific crash like that. Just make sure you don't over do things yourself right now.

Take care

Oh, my stars!  I can't believe it!  Well, now we know where you get your rock solid foundation from.  Good hardy stock!

I'm just so very relieved, elated that they are all right and were able to amazingly walk away from such a horrific crash.  I'm not surprised they're in shock.  Are you still, a little?  What a close call!

Take care of all of you.  Glad Abby is better.  Will keep you close tonight.

Love,

M & D are okay, but "stove up", sore and still a little in shock.  The car is totalled, they hit the guard rail on the freeway at rush hour, spun a 360 or two and then hit the opposite gaurd rail head on.  Hit a semi-truck which jack-knifed.  Airbags did not deploy. And they walked away.

My DS (Dear Sister) and I are facing the "it's time to stop driving" talk.  Will be big blow to my dad with the loss of his independence.  But they are in a beautiful retirement community, my sister is available 24/7 to drive them, my niece is available most days and the center has store and doctor runs.

Little Abby is better.

Thank you for all your prayers.  I will be busy with them today.  Quix

Wasn't online last night.  Didn't see your post until just now, noon-ish EST.  I'm SO with you.  I know things must be calming down already for your folks right now.  I'm at work, so I must be brief.

I hope you all got some good rest, despite all the drama.  Let us know how things are going with mother and dad. Keep that baby happy and comfy.

We'll keep the ice cream cold~

Love,
