High CD4 Cell

My neuro monitors CD4 cell levels on all his Tysabri patients....because the risk of PML increases as the CD4 cells decrease.

I had my base line completed and just received my results. My CD4 cells were over 2000  (the range is 490-1700)

Anyone know why my CD4 cells would be so high?? I know they are lymphocytes....but everything I look up talks about low ranges and AIDS/HIV

I don't rightly understand it. I am not sure I have that one run... Ii  did not see it on my paperwork.
do you feel you have infection? or are you on a cycle?

The information I found at http://www.thebody.com/content/art6110.html said that the CD4 counts can fluctuate throughout the day and are higher in the afternoon. They suggest getting the test at approximately the same time at at the same lab each time. Also I have a direct quote from the site:

"Infections can have a large impact on CD4 cell counts. When your body fights an infection, the number of white blood cells (lymphocytes) goes up. CD4 counts go up, too. Vaccinations can cause the same effects. It's best to wait a couple of weeks after you recover from an infection or get a vaccination before you get a CD4 test. "

One other tidbit is that they look for trends in CD4 counts and usually one test does not stand alone in determining an immune issue.

I was reading a report by Elsevier about Neuroinflammation in MS and it stated:"Autoantibodies and autoreactive T cells against these myelin antigens have been detected in MS patients."

Another website said there was a type of CD4 T-helper cell that reacted against myelin as well (Th-12 I think) so you may need another immunoessay to further calculate the the particular type of CD4 that is high. If you are in active MS phase, it makes sense to me that this level might be high b/c from what I read, there is some studies being done to correlate these CD4 cells to MS and other auto-immune disorders.

yes, I have been in an active phase. I have only had two Tysabri infusions, but I have felt worse in the last two months.

I also found out today that I am positive for the JC Virus.

So, I am not sure what I am going to do at this point.
