Hope I don't vomit on interviewer tomorrow!

Hey, everyone!

As some of you know, I have had an awful work situation and have recently been looking for a new job.  I had an interview about six weeks ago at a great hospital near our home, and I thought it went reasonably well.  Finally, I got a call for a second interview for an actual, specific position last Friday and set up the interview for this coming Tuesday.  Yea!

Well, I am well-prepared for it.  I have my black "power suit" ready with sensible accoutrement, and even picked up some low-heeled shoes this weekend.  I got out copies of my resume, references, an index card of questions to ask (my mom, the executive secretary says this is all the rage), and got my hair done....er, cut!

Trouble is...I am so dizzy and nauseaus and sleep deprived.  I think I have nystagmus, too, again.  It could be that I'm so sleepy that my eyes jump around.  I sound all right at work when I'm on the phone, and I know I can make do for an hour or two for an interview, but....OY!  I just wish it was better than it was.

My youngest three were away for the weekend with friends and I did yard work with my husband.  When I bent over to pull weeds, I got dizzy and had some diplopia.  I got to take a nap, which was nice and necessary.  We ordered Chinese food for dinner, watched a movie on cable and went to bed early, slept in ;ate.  We both caught up on much-needed sleep.

Last night I was so sleepy.  I went to care for my mom who just had surgery, but it was no strenuous work.  We were SO excited for the boys to arrive home, but I could not stay awake.  I told asked my husband to wake me before they were expected home.  And yet I was SO excited to see them.  I feel fast asleep.  (I can hardly keep my eyes open at work today.)

Even when I fell asleep my stupid parasthesias woke me!!!!

When I am on the computer today, I get sick to my stomach.  I already completed testing for the hospital position; I don't think I have to do any computer work.  I guess I am nervous that I'm going to be anxious and vomit on my interviewer or something!  Ridiculous, I know.

My question is, and I do have one....does anyone know of a good OTC sleep remedy?  I've seen Advil PM advertised.  Anyone?

Please wish me luck!!

Way to go, *Zil !!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait to hear how all this turns out. It's horrible that you have to wait and wait, yet that's how many HR offices are. But I'd say you've got it made for sure.

Meanwhile, keeping all fingers and toes crossed!

You guys are the sweetest!  Now, stop fussing over ME and do me a favor, OK?  Since I am sort of caught up at work and sickish to my stomach, will you please do what you do best and welcome the newbies who need us?

I will try to get to the forum this afternoon if the vultures here allow..... : )

Love you all muchly!

Thanks, Doni!

I read your brilliant and heart wrenching post the other day and will comment later or maybe tomorrow.  It tore me up good.  I am pretty nauseated reading lately.  And both bosses are in today.  Will try to catch up tomorrow.

Love and hugs!

What a relief to hear from you.  I have been wondering.  That would be so nice for you to work part time with full benefits.  Wonderful!!!!

Last night Craig's back had to be iced because of increased spasms from letting a certain PT clinic put him in TRACTION  yesterday afternoon.

So today I am back to calling neuros.  I have seen him suffer enough and I told him last night it was time to go back to doctors.  He reluctantly agreed.

More later,
Elaine

It sounds as though you are gonna have a new job!!!!

That's great, Zilla, I am so proud for you.

You take care of yourself, now, and give those angry legs a bit of rest.  They shouldn't be too mad at you though, at least you shaved them....ha...ha....ha..

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hey!

I contained my cookies!  I decided to get to bed very, very early (by 8:00) and feel fast asleep.  The boys knew how important it was for me to be rested, so left me alone without "ice cream calls" during the night!  I woke at five without my CPAP on, so put it back on, and went back to sleep.  I woke back up around 8:30, feeling not at all too shabby.

I took all my medications, had scrambled eggs for breakfast, a short cup of coffee, looked over my resume, took a warmish bath, conditioned my hair, shaved my legs, styled my hair, did my make up, ironed my blouse, had a quick game of poker or two with my boys, and got dressed.

It's muggy here in Michigan and I'm headachy, but so is everyone else.  When I got to the hospital parking lot, I forgot the walk is so far!  My legs were SO mad!!  I hadn't taken this into consideration.  But, I am not going to primp each morning like I did yesterday.  I put a lot of effeort into getting my hair to lay flat in the Michigan humidity.  I can put it up in a clip for work. And I frankly won't mind the Diana Ross hair look for work.  I'll just hum, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough!"

Too, I think my legs have had enough of the weight training I've been doing.  I'm not going to stop just yet.  But my legs are angry, that's for sure.  That could have added to my not wanting to get to my destination from the parking lot yesterday.

But once I arrived for the interview and calmed down, things were great.  I was nervous a bit, of course.  And I was dizzy, but I'm used to it.  I know it wasn't anything obvious to Sue, my interviewer.  We looked each other in the eyes, and had a pleasant conversation.  Very professional.  In fact, I'm not used to working with such professional, kind people, so it was a very nice way to spend an hour.

At the end, she asked my shift preference, and in which department I'd like to work.  She gave me choices.  We narrowed it down to ....RADIOLOGY!!!  Can you believe it?!  It's because the shift would allow me to be home when my children get home from school and I'd only work two to three days per week with full health benefits.  Yea!

She then told me what training would consist of and where it would be held, and what the dress code is down to the minute detail.  My husband thinks this means I have a job.  She told me to call Human Resources about a job offer, but not for two weeks or so, because things take so long here....  I am hopeful.

Thanks for all your support, everyone!!!!

Must go before I lose my present job!!!!

Way to use your "words" LOL!

At least you are brave enough to use the terminology we've been taught her to describe!

I'm so proud of you!

Moving on from a bad situation, making it to round "2" and getting all suited up!

How could they resist!  Go get em' Mama Z!  Show them what you've got! Then throw up in the parking lot...ha/ha...only kidding.

Sending you dizziless, diplopialess, nystagmusless moments!

Can't wait to hear how it went,
Love ya,

Fingers are crossed and prayers are on the way.  I am hoping with all my heart that you can get this job!!

Can Quix chime in here about Melatonin?.  It is a great supplement for sleep, but I have read in some literature that it is contraindicated in autoimmune disorders.   "Life Extension" group is very cautious about it and puts a warning on most of their ads for Melatonin.   Do you know for sure Quix??

If you don't have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, then Valerian is an alternative natural remedy for sleep.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks, everyone!

I'm just about to leave for home and call the kids to tell them to get my bed ready.  I should have suspected Benadryl was the culprit in the PMs.  It makes me jittery most of the time.  Is Melatonin a supplement?  Maybe I'll ask the pharmacist his opinion with all the medications I take.  My Verapamil is classified as a blood pressure treatment (even though my bp is fine), so maybe I'm better off with the warm milk, like Quix recommends.

I appreciate all the warm thoughts!

ess - I will fold in a heap and think of you....

Talk to you all on Wednesday, as I will go help my mother out again after my interview...

BTW - Benadryl or diphenhydramine is not a good thing to take more than occasionally for sleep.  It suppresses Stage 4 sleep and actually can leave you sleep-deprived.

God  bless you and good luck tomorrow.  I'll shoot up a prayer for you.  As far as otc sleep aids, have you tried Melatonin?  My husband takes it, so does my brother.  Love to you, Amy

So sorry you're going through this! I had really been wondering about the job interview situation, but thought you'd report it if things were good. And now they ARE good. You have this second interview tomorrow!

You won't foul it up, I'm betting my bippie on that. You may fold in a heap when you're safely done, but that's okay. Just hang in there for the duration and let us know how things go.

Being out in all this sun and heat wasn't a good idea. But now that's done, and the question is how to buck you up. You sound so sleepy now that managing it overnight shouldn't be a problem, but you're the judge of that.

The main ingredient in Benadryl is diphenhydramine. Although it's an antihistamine, it also has those sleep-inducing properties that work for so many. Alas, not me. But that's what's in Tylenol PM and the other OTC things. If you try them, it's cheaper by far just to buy the generic stuff.

The only other OTC thing I can think of is Melatonin, which is supposed to help regulate the circadian rhythms. Won't hurt to try it.

Knock 'em dead tomorrow!

Love,
ess

Wishing you the best of luck!  I know you've got what it takes, but I'll be keeping everything crossed (including my legs, ha ha!) that everything goes smoothly.

Hey, tomorrow is a special day; I'll celebrate your new job as well as my birthday!

Lots of love,

Kathy

Good Luck tommorrow, Sweetie!!!  I will also have my fingers, toes and my hair crossed for you!!!  You will blow them away, I just know it.  You will get this job!!!

Back when I was working the night shift I took Tylenol PM when I was just too wired to calm down enough to fall asleep.  It works, but as Quix said only use if you don't get the hangover feeling from Benadryl.  Oh and don't take any other allergy med or dicyclomine with this.  They interact very horribly, I never thought a stomach med was even related to Benadryl but it is.  Now I take Trazadone to sleep, the Ambien or Lunesta did not help me at all and were really expensive.

Love Ya,

Ada
