Hot and cold

It's getting cooler here and the other night when I got in bed, I just could not get warm. I just lay there shivering and feeling like my neck was vibrating and making weird chattering noises. Finally, I got my husband to get me another couple blankets and a hat and in time warmed up enough to fall asleep.

Eventually I must’ve gotten too warm, though. When I got up to go to the bathroom around 12:30 I could hardly move. My legs were so heavy that I could hardly lift my feet. Leaning on things and dragging my feet, I made it to the bathroom, where I had great trouble actually going. It took great effort to manage dribble, stop, dribble, stop. Managed to make it back to the bed and with great difficulty and various contortions managed to get myself back in despite total lack of cooperation from legs (which seemed to think that lifting high enough to get on the bed was just way too much to ask).

I took off the hat and most of the covers and by morning I was much more functional, but I did give myself a bad scare and am now haunted by the thought that this is a premonition of things to come. Sort of like a ghost of MS future.

Hi

I went to bed the other night and I could not get warm so on went the dressing gown and hubby made me a hot water bottle eventually I could feel myself getting warm but my feet
buttocks tops of my arms and my nose were cold.

I woke up a couple of hours later sweating so it all comes off when it was time to get up I felt exhausted I felt I had done a work out all night.

I go to bed most nights with the cold parts my hubby has to ask if im ok he said he has felt dead people warmer it worries him but I feel quite warm.

I've got the cold feet, hands and nose thing too.  I wear socks every night, but my feet take almost the whole night to finally get warm.  It is really strange isn't it.  As for my nose, it's like an ice cube too.  Do you think they make mittens for noses too?!!!

It was really annoying at first, but like you, I got used to it.  Try the socks and see if it helps.  You might actually sleep better.  :)

I've had that cold nose thing for years.  It's like an ice cube sometimes!  I haven't noticed a change for the better or worse since having MS.

During relapses, I get a lot of weird sensory stuff in my feet, including the feeling that my feet are cold, but when I touch them, I realze they are normal temp and it's a just a perception that they are cold.  Hence for me, wearing socks doesn't help.

This reminds me of Goldilocks (I THINK that's who it is, please correct me). Isn't she the one who needed her porridge not too hot, not too cold, but just right?

It sounds as if you overdid things with the blankets and socks. Too cold and you couldn't sleep, too hot and you brought on symptoms. It's hard to get it 'just right.'

Here's hoping that when the nights have become reliably cold you'll know just the right amount of layering to try. For a cold nose there's always one of those ski masks. Pretty hideous, of course, but since you've had to drop the sexy motif anyway, :o) what's a little more 'hideosity'?

Lulu,

Thanks, but I haven't gone to bed without socks on except in the heat of summer for years. Terribly unsexy, I know. I am plagued by cold hands, cold feet, and cold calves. At least, they feel cold to the touch most of the time. I am not always bothered by this--sometimes lack of sensation is a blessing. My husband, on the other hand, is not too keen on this particular symptom (which one neuro told me probably is from the MS).

For a while, some years ago, I had trouble sleeping because my nose would just get so cold. It was bizarre. I think my nose still gets cold, but it doesn't bother me anymore.

I might try two pairs of socks, though. :-)

Sho, I have had a couple chilly nights as well and find that a pair of socks (especially those sexy ones they givey ou in the hospital) on my feet is essential.  It seems to help regulate my temp without too much overheating.  Have you tried that?
