How about a little good news?

Living with fatigue since my neurological symptoms started in Feb '08, I've found that Provigil is the only thing that helps improve my focus and mental clarity enough for driving, doing paperwork, going to doctor's appts., etc.

Without a diagnosis, my insurance doesn't cover it.  My last rx in March cost $357; I called other pharmacies and they quoted around $390.  As my carefully rationed suppy is running out, and I have to prepare for my appt. with my new MS neuro and a little traveling, as well as everyday stuff like shopping and bill-paying, I dug into my (dwindling) savings, called and ordered a refill.

I called the tech to make sure my order was ready, and she said that they needed a prior authorization.  I explained that I had to pay cash; my insurance wouldn't cover it.  She said I couldn't (knowing my financial situation), but I told her that I needed it to function, that it was the only thing to help in the last year and a half.

She told me to hang on, and went and talked to the pharmacist.  She said that he would give me a deal, and that they would have my rxs ready in an hour.

When I drove in a picked them up, they only charged me $343 for the Provigil!  I never thought that such an amount would be considered good news, but it made me very happy!  $14 less than my last refill, and I know the prices are going up elsewhere.

That's why I stay with my pharmacy, even if it's not the easiest place to get to.  My pharmacist will gladly deliver prescriptions to my apartment building on his way home; the guy is awesome.

So, I get to be a little brighter eyed an bushy-tailed for a while longer!  Hopefully my new neuro will be able to work with my insurance company to get it covered.

Happy hugs,

Kathy

Sounds like you've got lots coming up!  I will cross my fingers for you that this new neuro will be the ONE!!

Be careful in Las Vegas - very hot there!!!  Don't over do it.

Thanks, it's always good to share a little positive news.  I'm sure the price should have been even higher than what I paid last time, if the pharmacist hadn't been so awesome.  I'm sure he can't afford to do that too often, but how nice that he could this time!

My appointment with my new MS neuro is Sept. 16.  I need to update my timeline, add all my new chart notes and test results to my notebooks; probably reorganize them so it's easier to find what I'm looking for.

I have a Zoo Concert on the 12th (one of those that's free if you're a zoo member, need to pick up the tickets on the 10th after my appt. with my PCP), then a trip to Sacramento with my roommate to watch WNBA games the 20th through the 23rd.

After that, University of Portland Soccer starts up with the Nike Invitational here in town, then my appt. with Dr. M. on the 16th,  then Sept. 19 - 26 I go to Vegas while my roommate goes to a conference there.  She has a timeshare, so I'll have a full kitchen and other good stuff.

Hopefully the trip to Vegas will be spent celebrating having found a neurologist that will take my brain lesions and symptoms seriously, and figure out what's going on with me.

I want to focus on the positive, on having a good time while recognizing my limitations and not over-doing it.  I want to get things accomplished like preparing good food, doing some cleaning, making jewelry, and even going to water aerobics if I take it easy.  Heck, even taking a positively good nap if I need it!  :o)

What an awesome pharmacist.  My son is becoming a pharmacist and I hope that someday he will be just as kind and compassionate of his patients as your is with you.

Thanks for sharing this positive experience with us.

That is good news!  It may not be a huge sum of money, but every bit helps when you are paying for your own prescriptions!  Sounds like your pharmacy is a keeper!
