How concered should I be?

Today I did something kind of stupid since we have trouble tolerating heat. It was about 83 outside with 50% humidity, but I figured that since it was kind of cloudy and there was a shade tree only a couple of feet from where I was going to be working I should be OK.

Before starting the job I prepared by bring all of the tools I would need, a chair to rest in and a nice ice cold Ice Tea to drink on the breaks. The job was to replace my mail box post and the mail box. The previous owners of my home had only sunk the post about 6 inches into the ground so that every time you opened and closed the mailbox it would loosen up and was almost falling over.

I was taking what I thought was easy while doing the work. While digging the post hole I would only do 3 or 4 jabs with the post hole digger before taking about a 5 minute rest. But I was still soaked in sweat in no time at all. Once I got through digging the hole I came inside to get another ice tea and to cool off some. This all seemed to be the smart way to do this so far.

While sitting and drinking my tea and cooling off I decided for the heck of it to take my BP since the monitor was sitting right next to me.  Well at first glance things to be pretty good. BP was 131/71 but my pulse was 115, then I noticed something I had never seen before. The Irregular Heart Beat  indication was flashing. At first I started to panic, but then decided to finish my ice tea and then take it again.

After about 7 minutes I took my BP again. This time there was no Irregular Heart Beat indicator flashing. And the reading for my BP was really the lowest I had seen in years coming in at 113/63, but my pulse was still pretty high at 99.

I just took my BP again a few minutes ago and it still looks pretty good at 128/75, though my pulse is still a little bit higher than my normal coming in at 88. I have been having a pulse rage around 65 to 71.

Over the last few days my BP has been running pretty constant at around 134/78. So these new BP numbers makes me happy, just wish the pulse would drop now to my normal.

Just a few other things to consider.  My doctor put me on Hydro chlorothiazide (water pill  ) last week, but I stopped taking it after losing 13 pounds in 3 days as I knew that was unhealthy and that would be what the doctor would tell me to do. So with this in mind I was probably a little bit dehydrated to begin with, then with all of the sweating it probably didn't help either.

Also since this happened my throat has been hurting. Not like when you get a cold or strep, but it hurts to swallow. It is located toward the bottom of my throat near my collar bone. I can also feel a lump there, maybe a gland. It might not be related, but it seems kind of strange to happen at the same time.

So should I be concerned about this?
Does it sound like something I can just bring up at my next doctor appointment or should I get in to see someone sooner?

All responses welcome....

Dennis

Hi Dennis

We have not said hello yet my name is Julie pleased to meet you (although i feel i know you just by reading your posts and answers).

Which brings me to answer your question here.

You MUST make an appointment with your doc. There are a lot of RED FLAGS here my freind.

1 = Your Weight LOSS  13lbs in 3 Days is NOT HEALTHY

2 = Your Pain in Swallowing is  NOT NATURAL and is indicating a PROBLEM

3 = The Lump You MUST let your DOCTOR see and assess WHAT IT IS

Please make an appointment to rule out anything sinister.

Better to be safe than sorry "right"

So go see the doc and he will get to the bottom of this episode and he will also tell you if you should be doing any DIY at the minute.

Take Care and Be Well
Kndest Regards
Julie xx

Hi Dennis

I agree with Jess and I actually felt that you want someone to tell you to ring your doctor so that you can put your mind at rest..but probably like all of us did not want to make a fuss. Your health is the most important thing and with MS we cannot ignore any unusual or irregular symptoms.

So listen to your gut feeling and I think you probably know what you want to do.

Cheers Sarah

PS Leave the mailbox for a day or two until everything settles down..it sounds far too hot to be tackling such a physical job. Here in England it is pouring with rain!!!

Dennis,

I'm just not sure :-( My advice is to maybe check your BP again this morning, see if your throat is feeling any better....and if either or both still seem off, give the doctor a call. That's why we pay them the big bucks.

((hugs)) I hope you were able to sleep and feel better this morning!
