How often do you have an MRI?

Hello, All:

It's been a while since I've posted. I check in almost daily to read the posts just haven't contributed much.

I was Dx RRMS on May 13, 2013. Lesion load was "light" according to my specialist. I was put on Tecfidera and followed every 3 months after Dx with another set of scans at the one year mark. No no lesions at the time. I was seen twice after that scan and have an appointment next week.

My question has to do with frequency of scans. Will this always be an annual event or possibly less often? Say, for example, the clinical exam is good like it was last time. Will I still need to go in the tube? It's not a huge deal but going in for 2.5 hours is not something I look forward to either.

Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

It really does depend. I think an annual MRI is a vague 'standard of care' recommendation, but I'm on a drug trial, so I've had 12 in four years. Just brain and cervical spine though, so each is only an hour.

It is really up to your neurologist and you. All of my MRIs have been the same and my neurological exams so I stopped having yearly MRIs. If my neurological exam changes drastically I would have another MRI. When you are on a DMD they may want to do it yearly to see how the drug is working. MS progression can happen with out symptoms so it is tricky.
