How often do you use the bathroom in 24 hours?

I've read a lot of threads on here talking about having to go to the bathroom frequently or feeling like you are retaining urine. I'm wondering if it is abnormal to NOT have to go to the bathroom often?

My average day has me going to the bathroom at 7 when I get up. Then again at about 9, not because I need to, but it is more of a habit to go and then get dressed for the day. Then, most days I can go until 8pm until I feel like I have to go again. Once more at about 10:30 before bed, again just out of habit.

Up until the last 6 months I was going at least once in the afternoon. Lately I just don't really feel the urge to go, so I don't normally think about it. If I go happen to remember how long it has been then I will make a point of going.

When I go I do not feel like I'm retaining any urine. I feel as if my bladder empties completely. Bowel movements are another story though. But, not anything too bad.

I drink one to two cups of coffee a day, one in the morning for breakfast one in the afternoon for a "snack". Other then that I drink water. And, I would say at least 45-60 oz of water on any given day.

I have not had any UTI problems. I'm not worried, just curious if this is odd or not.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend! It is cold and rainy here, so we are enjoying what will probably be the last fire in our wood stove for the season :-)

I have no idea about this.  Interesting. Think I will "count" today. So far up to about 8 times, and it is only 10:45 A.M.

Wonder what the "norm" is?

My daughter only goes twice in 24 hrs. I thought there was something wrong with her but obviously not!!  lol.

Me however, I go every hour during the day and about 3 times through the night. So could be about 15 x in 24 hours.

Also if I dont go imediatly I need to , it can lead to accidents. :(

LOL, I'm glad that while I'm a bit different, I'm still normal :-)

I like the "cast iron" bladder term! In all 6 of my pregnancies, the only one I had to ever wake up during the night to go to the bathroom was with my youngest...and my first 2 babies were 9 pounds 4oz and 10 pounds 4oz!

I think I will enjoy the large capacity bladder as long as I can. I know it can't last forever :-)

Have a great night everyone!

I'm like Quix. I go very often, and have to get up at night, too, even though my liquid intake is actually fairly limited...coffee in the morning, about 8 oz at noon, another 8 oz at dinner...not much of anything beyond that. I have urgency, too, badly, especially in the morning (I guess b/c of the coffee). I *have* to find a bathroom or else.

You may have a large capacity bladder.  My mom was always like that.

I go about 12 to 14 times in a 24 hour period.

I had a cast iron bladder. Now I urinate first thing and then again ten minutes later, then every half an hour to hour. If I go beyond that I better not cough or sneeze.

When I was younger I had one of those cast iron bladders (and stomach). I would go first thing in the morning and then not have to go again until 7 or 8 at night. During the day I would drink 6 or 7 cups of coffee and a couple of sodas. Then another 3 or 4 cups of coffee in the evening before bed. I could have probably gone only oncwe a day a the morning trip was mostly out of habit as we were taught to go first tihing in the morning my mu folks. Some times when I was up for 2 or 3 days striaght working on a project I would end up going a couple more times during the day, but I was also downing a couple of cups of coffee every 5 - 6 minutes. My family always joked that I must have a hollow leg as I was 5' 11" and 125 Lbs. One time my brother and I stoped for a afternoon snack and I ordered 3 whoppers, large order of fries, and a milk shake. After wolfing down all of that my brother said he would buy another whopper of me if I would eat it. So I said sure and finished off a forth whopper in no time flat. Even after all of that I didn't really feel full at all.

Now today I can hardly make it more than a hour or two before running to the bathroon. In fact the other day a friend and I went out to eat. By the time we got to the restaurant I had to go. With dinner I had one glass of ice tea and even before I finished I was already feeling the urge and had to go before we left for home. Of course now I am constantly drinking something due to the dry mouth cause by Sjogren's. Just during the time it took to type that last sentence I have take 3 mouthfuls of soda.

I have a friend with what I jokingly call a "cast iron bladder".  She can drink soda and coffee drinks all day and only go  a couple of times a day.

I go many times, often 3 or more at night while trying to sleep.  I did a urine measurement for my uro-gynecologist for 24 hours, and was amazed at how many times I actually go in a day (can't remember the actual count).  My only beverage is water, which I drink plenty of.

I think you are normal for YOU.  As long as you're not retaining urine and emptying totally when you do go, not retaining fluids elsewhere, then I'd think that what you do do is healthy for you.

Sigh, must be nice!  I map out all the rest areas on a trip, and know where every public restroom is when I'm out and about.  :o)
