I can't believe what I did yesterday

by Tahiri_Veila, May 31, 2008 10:20PM
Two days ago, I made dinner for my grandparents at their house. There was so much left over that my grandma just gave me the casserol dish (It was a really nice painted glass one) to take home so my husband and I could finish it.  Yesterday my husband took his dinner out of it for work and left it on the counter.  After he left, I went to put it away.  I had a good firm grip on it and halfway to the fridge my finger just gave out, like they did not have the strength to carry it anymore, and I dropped the dish.  It shattered.  I felt awful because this dish was given to my grandma by grandpa.  I have had this happen with other things, but usually they are not breakable things.  What would I do if this happened while I was holding my daughter? (yes it affects my arms not just my fingers) It frightened me.

Hello, just read this and felt I wanted to respond.  I myself am the type of person who often thinks the worst in situations, so I may not be the best respondant, but this is how it sounds to me.  You had an accident.  You dropped something - people with serious symptoms or people with no symptoms have accidents.  It is just a shame it was something precious to your family.  But ultimately it is just a casserole dish, and you didn't smash it deliberately, and may even have been nothing to do with your illness, it was an accident.  Please don't lose confidence in yourself because of this.  If your hands and arms suddenly became weak then of course you must consider that there is a problem there, but don't let it start you living your life in fear.  Regarding your children, they will not be dropped so easily.   Even should the worst happen and you lose your grip they will hold on to you.  Maybe to ease your fear always hold them near something soft like a bed or sofa.  Don't be afraid of loving or holding your child, just be aware if you know you are weakening, and work around it.  It would be such a shame to lose confidence because of a casserole dish.  No comparison, but last month I bought a brand new expensive clock, sat it on a table the same evening, knocked it off, and as I tried to pick it up fell on top of it and smashed it to pieces.  No refund there...  Accidents happen.  I hope you regain your strength and confidence.  Best.

Thanks.  No I just was having a bad day in general.  I still hold my daughter, I just wish there was something I could do to make it happen less often.  I do thank you for responding and for your story.  It sounds like something I would do.  Sorry about that. My grandma was fine with it.  She said not to worry it is not something she can take with her when she dies so it does not matter.
