I had the front half of my tongue shut down... everything tasted less flavorful, but it wasn't completely gone. It's back, fortunately - I love to cook, and it would be terrible if I couldn't taste!
I have a question. Can you taste anything at all or is it just reduced? Can you taste salty, sweet, bitter? If you can taste sweet, salty, bitter, then your tongue is working but your nose is not. How are different textures of food felt in your mouth? I have this problem on and off. I find when my taste is reduced to only what my tongue can sense that I tend to salty sweet, spicey food with lots of textures and food with strong flavors. The signals from the sensors on your tongue and in your sinues are processed in your brain so information from these senses can be affected my MS. But they can also be affected by local damage ie., dry mouth or sinus problems
Hopefully someone with more knowledge about this can answer more fully than this.

i do not know for sure but i will relate this to you.
it is one of my symptoms that occurs with some episodes. this is usually accompanied with the sensation i'm swallowing my tongue (best way i can describe it) too. often times during these same episodes, the left side cheek will have less sense to the touch, not completely numb but close. and taste is basically gone at these times. then, it all slowly goes away.
I have done that too, it seems to be better now but it was also when i had no appetite and was losing weight. But i dont know what caused it,unless it was a med...I am not much help..someone will be though.
Now I am getting fat again..lol
