Amazing! WOW!
I know your'e family is proud of you but so is the whole bunch of us here:)
I don't smoke but my mother did for 45 years and she has been smoke free and nicorette free for 7 years,Praise God! So we all will keep celebrating for you.
Oh yeah,I sure could lose @ 30 pds. My time will come.:)
Many blessings,
Tammy:)
My motivation was not as obvious as a heart attack, however MS seems to have gotten my attention :-) I know that it's not going anywhere. I know that it's lurking, waiting for the opportunity to resurface. I'm going to do everything in my power to keep that opportunity from arising!
The first things I did were quit smoking and clean up my diet. My PCP gave me Chantix, which helped immensely. I am still chewing Nicorette gum. She said that the nicotine did not pose nearly the health risk that the smoking did. As long as I was "given permission" to chew Nicorette forever I could wrap my head around not smoking.
The diet thing was easier. Even though I'm a carb junkie (I have way too many kinds of flour in my kitchen :-) http://www.kyleskitchen.net/page3/page3.html) I started eating fewer carbs and more protein. With the help of the Naturopathic doc at the MS Spa I learned that all the anti egg propaganda is BS. They are an excellent source of protein and an insignificant contributor to cholesterol. So I eat a veggie frittata for breakfast instead of cereal or bagels. I have also replace the remaining carbs my diet with whole grains. I eat lots of chicken and lean pork and lots of leafy green vegetables.
I started the exercise part very slowly. First it was 20 minutes at a snails pace every other day on my treadmill. I knew that if I tried to too too much too soon, I'd get sore/tired and quit. Over two months I built it up to doing 45 minutes at a good clip, with a slight incline, holding 3LB hand weights every other day. I also walk outside when I can for about an hour +/-.
The key is to figure out what you can do and DO IT! And the DO IT again :-)
When I start to see results, I like the results. It becomes self fulfilling :-)

Holy Fan Freakin Tastic Batman!!!!!!
Woot Woot! I'll drink to that Kyle!!
Great Kyle,
Congrats. I hope you do very well on the walk. I am of the philosophy of being as well as you can with MS. My first step was cleaning up my diet which was bad and exercising. I had to try several things until I found the riding which I love. Since there is not much medicine can do to slow my MS at least I can care for myself.

You are an inspiration, Kyle - do you have some tips as to how you have done all this? I also did the quit smoking after 35 yrs, but mine came with the help of the motivation of a hear attack.
It sounds like you have adopted the mindset that we prompt eveyrone to remember around here - if you don't take care of yourself, you can't expect any one else to do it for you.
keep it up!

Hahaha! "MS: It's not for wimps!" Alex is still looking for an excuse to wear that tube top out to the beach.
Oops, so very sorry! We have a 'chicks' disease and I just assumed. Sorry man.
Or boy, as the case may be :-)
I can't say how losing weight has impacted individual sx. I just know I feel much better overall.
I decided that my body is at war, albeit with itself :-) Anything I can do to help ot win the war I'm going to do!
Congrats Kyle!
Has the weight loss helped to alleviate any of your MS symptoms - if so, which ones?
You're the bomb! Gimme some of what you got! Congrats!
that's fantastic Kyle! Am so happy for ya!
Wooo hooo Kyle! That is GREAT news.
I am next in line... I want to lose 13 pounds, get in shape and feel GOOD!
Blessings
