I got it so wrong.....

the neuro was wonderful with me.  He was mortified to see the state I was in, and has a 'set' look to his face when he said that my own PcP had not contacted him hmmmmm.
He gave me Medrol for 5 days with a taper and also Xatral for my bladder.

My question is does Medrol do the same thing as Solu-medrol??  As I am sure a few of you have guessed I  am so anti meds, and so I would have prefered IV as now it is down to me to take the tablets :(

I've tried googling, but I can't seem to understand the difference - if any???

Have any of you tried  Medrol?  I have had IV x 2 befored, it was ok, the usual s/e totally wired, metallic taste, high sugar etc.

Can anyone help?

What I hear is that the IV steroids deliver it to your system faster, allowing you to feel better sooner.

However, I've only ever taken oral steroids, and they worked just fine.

Debs,
It sounds like you mights as well take the Medrol - try it his way and then if it doesn't work out, you can go back and as for the solu-medrol.  I'm guessing it is very close- just the "solu" means it is a liquid form (soluble)  - again that's just my guess.

Sorry you have to tough it out and take the meds - we all are taking stuff we would rather not ingest but do so because we're adults and understand the alternative.  :-)

Let us know how it goes...

Hi Karen,
Thank you for your reply.

He said that it had been proven that oral had the same effect as having an IV - and cheaper I should imagine!

He has given me 500mg per day for 5 days with a 100mg taper for the following four days.

I could send him an email, but I'm not sure how he is going to react - being French I should imagine not very well - as the French are reknown for always being right!

Debs.

Hi.  I don't know the answer to your question.  Why won't your neuro give you the IV Solumedrol?  That is the best route to treat a relapse and it is your preference.

Is he approachable to ask this question before you start the oral Medrol?
