I haven't been diagnoised but I have 11 lesions

Hello:
I know you are not supposed to daignoise.  But I have been told by a neurologist and an eye doctor I need to get back in to the MS Center.  Last MRI showed I had 11 lesions.  2 (maybe more) are in the pariventricular area.  One measuring 3mm is in my corpus colusom.

I am having all sorts of eye problems, seeing double, pupils that are enlarged in the light and stay the same in the dark (should be that size in the dark).  They were as large  in the light as when they dialated my pupils yesterday.  Also, I am seeing spots of color.  When I am reading on hot days words are missing on the page and/or the words are things I am reading are foggy.  I have uped my power of glasses and ordered a Giant print bible.  This all came on suddenly,  I noticed as did the eye doctor that my eyes move back and forth (Nystagmus).

I don't just have vision problems either,  I have  tingeling and my midle toe keeps curlilng under when I am walking (how can that happen?).  I have been tripping going up the stairs.  Walking down halls with out shoes on.  And I know I fell pretty good  once down the stairs.  The tripping going up the stairs, walking down the all and lifting my leg over a low board that we put up for a tow poodle happens alot..

Question, I do not MS because I do not have a lesion in my spine.  There is way more that has gone on with me.  I have been week in my upper arms, legs and back of neck.  And it gets worse with hit.  I can see there are more ways to diagnoise this. So, does anyone know the truth. Did the doctors decide you HAVE TO HAVE one lesion in your spine?   Another Dr. who left the MS ceter told me it may be to little to see.  I have ever more issues which I am not even writting down.  Thank you for in advance for your answer.

One last thing, can different states have different diagnoises requirements? I life on a borderline state. Thanks

You do not need a lesion on the spine to be diagnosed. I would run away very fast from any neuro that would tell you that. obvisouly 11 lesions has got to be something and a new neuro maybe the next step. Dont give up keep fighting

You don't need to have a lesion in the spine to be diagnosed with MS.  Take a look at our Health Pages.  They're on the upper right hand corner of the screen.  You'll find a  lot of great information.  Here's an article about the McDonald criteria, that they use to diagnose people.

And no, different states do not have different diagnosis requirements.  But neurologists vary on what they will diagnose.  Some will diagnose based upon symptoms and history, while others want to see a positive LP and lesions on the MRI.

Some lame-brain has told you you need a spinal lesion (at least one) to qualify for MS diagnosis?  That's crazy, not to mention false.

What you describe sounds a lot like MS, but you need a real expert to make sure. Keep looking. Lots of folks here have MS without spinal lesions, or at least without any identified. Imaging them is much tougher than imaging brain lesions, for various reasons.

Please spend some time checking out our Health Pages, which are full of accurate info in understandable form for the layperson. I'm sure they will help you as you go through this process.

Welcome to the forum, Lee. I hope you'll stick around.

I have no spine lesions and was dx'd with RRMS in March 2010 and have 5 lesions on the brain. I would suggest that you seek another opinion and agree with comments from others above.

There is a wealth of information on this site, particulary onthe great health pages, and you will learn a lot also from other people just reading their posts. So feel free to ask anything and stay around.

Cheers
