Just was curious about this Obands stuff. I know that you are suppose to have blood work done at the time of CSF collection, but not 100% clear as to why. Is their other things they look for in CSF related to MS.
All mentioned addres the uniqueness of banding in the CSF, as compared to the blood serum. They know the banding is of csf origin if it is not found in the blood serum. This health page sums up all we are trying to say, i.e., What O-bands are, How they test it, Why, etc.
Oligoclonal bands is not an exact science but based on my neuro and clinical studies I have found on internet seems to be a handy tool to have in the toolbox. Check out this article to see some possibilities. The picture on page two should answer your question.
