Well, I didn't find much. The muscles that control the abdomen come from the lumbar region, so we can't specifically identify where the damaged nerve connection is. However, I did learn that the TVA (the band of muscle that runs down the center of the abdomen) is responsible for decompressing the diaphragm, helping in respiration. I've been having times when I've been short of breath for no apparent reason.
Yeah, I was diagnosed in 2007 with RRMS.
me too! You are dx with MS aren't you? Let me know what you find out!
Yup, had the same stomach-clenching thing after I ate, but if I thought about it, I could get those stomach muscles to relax, so I think it's definitely related. I was getting a burning sensation in my esophagus, so I don't think it's the entire answer.
I've had my stomach clench and unclench itself rhythmically before - I wonder what nerve controls that group? Off to Google!
I'm glad you're feeling better. I have only ever had indigestion when I was pregnant until recently. I have not talked to the doctor about it though. I get horrible "hunger" pains too, but not because I'm hungry....Hmmmm....Sometimes I also don't feel like eating anything even though I'm starving. Once I get shakey I give in. LOL.
I don't think it's a stomach virus... Normally I run a fever with any kind of stomach bug, and I'm at my usual 97.6. I'm wondering now if I'm misreading the pain.
Last night I found that my stomach muscles were really tense, and I had a hard time relaxing them. If I sat forward, with my elbows on my knees, then I could relax my stomach and it would stop hurting. But sitting normally, with my back against the couch, my stomach would tighten back up.
Today everything seems to be fine - I feel short of breath, but the stomach pains are gone.
It's gotta be a tummy virus. I can't think of anything else that can cause hunger pangs even after you've eaten. Something is trying to work its way through you system and you might just have to wait till it's done with making you miserable before it goes away.
Do you think it could be an ulcer?

My favorite form of rice was Kozy Shack rice pudding, lol! My roommate is bringing some home because I'm on a soft diet since I have temporary crowns on both sides of my mouth today.
If you don't hate it or have trouble digesting it, you could try tofu for your protein. Pretty bland!
good luck, feel better,
Kathy
I've eaten bland food, (although not today) and had the same reaction. You'd think chicken and rice would be pretty innocuous. Today I had meatloaf and rice - bleah!
Now I have indigestion and hunger pangs again! Sheesh.
There's always the brat diet, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast. That's what I was told to eat when I had a similar situation. The bland, easy to digest food is supposed to cause less problems.
It did seem to help some, or maybe that was just because I ate less. :o)
My PCP decided I had a virus of some sort, and it did go away after a few weeks.
I agree that seeing a doctor is a good idea if this doesn't improve.
Take care,
Kathy
That is interesting that it seems to get better once it has digested some. Do you have acid reflux? Or an ulcer?
I take acid reflux medication twice a day & if I take it too soon prior to eating I can have issues...just a thought.
I agree with Julie - if you deal with this for more than a day or two, get in to see your doctor.
Hope you feel better!
Chrisy
It seems to go away once the food has digested a little... if that's not TMI! But I've had indigestion and hunger pangs at the same time, too.
That is a real mystery. Can you drink fluids without getting the stomach pain? If so, and if that is all you can do for now, then at least stay hydrated. You might want to put a call into your doctor to see if they would like to see you in the office about this. You might have a GI infection brewing.
Take care.
Julie
