Inquiring mind wants to know

I had a serious flu like side affect from Copaxone after 8 injections.  Stopped injecting and after 20 days had courage enough to inject again.  Had another milder flu like reaction.  Have not tried since.  I am about 100 lbs.  Would a smaller dose be helpful or is this an accumulative result?
Copaxone doesn't even acknowledge a flu like side affect while the interferron drugs mention it quite easily.  Would I be more likely to experience a maybe even more severe reaction to these?    How do you feel about Tysabry.
The last Neurologist referred me to the internet to make my decision.  I need more help than that.

Yes, I did tell my dr. She said to skip a dose and resume. She doesn't have a clue as to how badly I reacted.  I saw a different dr. who said that the copaxone had made me worse!   The SS nurses mostly denied the drug's responsibliity but finally one nurse did say she thought I should not continue.  I have not met a neurologist that I have any faith in yet.
Tysabri scares me b/c no one has been on it over 2 years and side effects can be deadly.
I can and do trust the Lord.  I've asked Him for guidance and I'm sure He's directing me away from Copaxone at least.

Hi Aliveinme,
Be sure to talk about these sidde effects with your doctor.  I am on copax and have been for over 10 months and not once with the flu-like side effects.  I do get the localized reaction at times but not flu symptoms.

Tysabi is only meant as a last course when the CRABs don't work.  It is significantly more potent that the other DMD's and has a rather lengthy list of side effects and complications.

Hang in there and please find a therapy that you can tolerate - they are all rated basically the same for effectiveness.

be well,
Lulu

I have been on Copaxone for almost 2 months now and haven't had any flu-like symptoms just the usual injection site reactions.  Have you talked to Shared Solutions about this reaction?  What about your doctor?

You are right in mentioning that Copax does not register flu-like symptoms as a side effect so either you are having a very rare reaction or the reaction is being caused by something else.

I'd call the nurse line at SS and aske them about it.  You might hear the usual spiel that it doesn't cause this side effect, but you should at least register it with them what is happening.  They might be able to suggest a possible explanation.  If not, then there was still no harm in calling.  Otherwise, talk to your doctor and maybe you will have to go to a different DMD.

As for Tysabri, I don't have any experience or much knowledge about it.  Some other members of the forum will likely chime in when they see your post so hang in there and see what they have to say.

Be well.
