Is it hard for everyone to get there labs?

I have been waiting for weeks to get results of my lab work.  I called my neurologist and they have not received them.  I had my blood drawn here at my hometown hospital and so I called them to make sure they send them to my neuro and my neuro nurse is suppose to call me back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You not only have to pay for the lab work  -- you have to go get the results yourself.  I think it has almost been a month since I had my labs drawn.  This is just a pain in the ***!

Sorry, Im venting today.  Does anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,  If you remember I had trouble getting my first neuro to get my labs back.  I had them drawn at a big hospital in a large town.  I still did not get a copy.

I am calling my new neuro tomorrow and get them to call my small rural hospital and request them since they are suppose to go to them ( like I told them when I went to get them drawn).  I will get my neuro to send me a copy of them.

I know they had to send most of them out.  But. . .I am just tired of the run around.  I am calling them everyday if I have too.

Sorry again,
Lynette

Depending on what type of blood work the doctor ordered, it could take several weeks if you live in a smaller city. (four weeks does seem a bit long, we do see 3 weeks on a regular basis for the "out of the ordinary" tests that are run in the clinic that I work in and I live in a big city.) However, I would expect that some of the results, like CBC, etc to be back in a couple days.  I would ask them for the results that are back, regardless of the pending lab results.

I seem to have a hard time getting results for anything. Maybe it depends on where you live. I live ina relatively rural area, but all my docs are in Pittsburgh. You would think I would get things, with them being in a big city, but no!!

You may have to really be a fly in the ointment; be such a pain that they send them to shut you up.

Go get 'em!

I agree with db1 that you need to call the lab at the hospital and find out where your results have gone!  I have a feeling that either they were sent to the wrong place or they may have been lost period!

If you are not able to contact the lab, have the nurse of your neuro call the lab...they are the ones that requested the lab tests in the first place...they should be held responsible for finding out what has happened to your results!

I wish you luck honey and I hope you don't have to go through the testing again...however, in my experience, if no results have shown up by now, they have disappeared in outer space somewhere!

Lots of Hugs,

Rena

I have never heard of labs taking so long.  It is no wonder that you are frustrated.  I think it is smart of you to keep calling; you would hate to wait all this time only to find that you may have fallen through the cracks.

Has the lab been able to explain to you the reason for the delay and whether this is their typical level of service, or are they just exceptionally busy at the moment?

I can't say I have ever had this problem; my labs are always back within a few days; perhpas a week at the most.  I have my done at a private lab but the tests are funded by the government.  I'm in a small town in Alberta, Canada and the samples are sent out of town for analysis, and even with that there is no delay in getting results.

I really hope you get some answers very soon.
