Is there any other drug used too treat TN?

Is there any other drug used too treat TN?

It appears I am having an allergic reaction to Trileptal since I am developing a blood dyscrasia, now both white and red blood cells are taking a drop. Tegretol is out of the picture due other drugs I take and because of its side effects profile.

Has anyone ever taken anything thing else for TN pain? I am on my last week to wean and the pain and numbness are returning quickly.

Any  and suggestions welcome!

thanks,
Ren

Actually, Ren, the first-line choice of meds for TN is the older, but effective (usually) carbamazepine (Tegretol).  I don't know why so many docs opt for the newer and more expensive meds when the recommended first-line is right there.

My pain melted away as soon as I reached a dose of 900mg a day.  My pain was not excruciating, but still hard to handle.  I am possibly a wimp.  Max dose is 1200mg.  Usually you begin at about 400mg a day and can move up every few days.
