Is this a relapse??

Is this a relapse??

I'm diagnosed with clinically isolated syndrome. 2 years plus since first attack.

Over the last few weeks I have had an increase in symptoms and new ones too. Lots of tiredness, twitching especially in legs, eyes, jaw, pain in joints and legs and forearms, Tingling in feet and hands sometimes, some loss of feeling in right leg. Twice during these symptoms my lower back has become very sore. Like a typical bad lower back. The second time I had pain down my right leg which was giving me a limp when I walk. It eases off then returns and is not like normal muscle pains. This has lasted for a day and a half. I have also been incontinent though not much.

Does any of this sound like a relapse? I know none of it is severe but I have been so symptom free for so long it
makes me wonder.

My only symptom with my first attack was located in my spine. Tingling and burning etc.

Aimee.

If you are noticing something that is NOT normal for you, then you can possibly be having some type of relapse. But, first think back through these symptoms.  Did you start a new drug in the past few weeks?  Have you been sick lately?  Stress?

If the symptoms go longer than 3 days, then you might want to touch bases with your doctor to see what he/she thinks.

I didn't give my relapse symptoms to attention they needed and then after a car accident last week they flared out of control. You don't want that to happen to you I'm sure so keep a close eye on the progression or if it is not letting up and then let someone know about it.

Take care and I hope you will get over this quickly.

Aimee,
This sounds like a very good reason to be calling your neurologist - it sounds like a different episode to me.  You say you have a dx of CIS - are you on treatment for MS?  This may be the additional episode needed for your record to clinch a diagnosis for good and get you out of the CIS category.

Please call and then keep us updated.

my best,
Lulu

Thank you both for your replies.

I am not on medication. they don't treat CIS in this country, unless you have 9 or more lesions and I have 4.

I have called the MS nurse but still waiting for her to get back, its a funny system here. If things get worse I will obviously be on to my neuro.

In answer to Julies questions. I have not been ill lately or under any particular stress and no new drugs.

Thanks again.

It sounds like a relapse to me if you can rule out other possible triggers.  I hope you hear from the MS nurse today.  Let us know how it turns out.

I hate to be cheering you on for a relapse, but if that would get you the drugs, I'm all for it.  Stay in touch,

Spoke to the MS nurse and she said it looks like I will get my MS diagnosis. Need to go in on the 7th of July and she needs to speak to my neuro but she said my symptoms are MS related.

Won't be starting meds because I have got better so she says it seems my body is doing a good job on its own for the moment.

Aimee.
