Jumping firmly back into Limbo Land

Update on Neuro Visit! Wow! So, how is it when you want to find a doctor to run tests on you, its so hard and then when you just want a doctor that is just a doctor that will sort of be a primary care neurologist and not "run you through the ringer" you somehow stumble on a doctor who believes on running every test imaginable?

So I walked into this appt with rather good balance (in my book) and no serious complaints other than these spells... and walked out with scripts for EEG's, evoked potentials, 3 MRI's, and nerve conductions studies and now I'm simply wondering if I should even do them? I mean... I just did this battery of tests a year ago, and my NYU dr said whatever I have, is just not showing up on these tests.

So, now I guess I go for these tests this month and then wait and see. He also wants to double my Topamax, as he thinks my episodes are complex partial seizures (?) which I don't know much about. I started on the higher Topamax today and feel funky so we'll have to see how that goes.
I like my neurologists so far.

So...... I guess I'll be more visible on the forum again, as I just feel like I need you all again. um... yeah, needy is the feeling. :)

Hey Sunny-B,

I'm glad too that you'll not have to travel too far.  Had you brought your reports to this Dr. from last yr.?

I think it's a good idea for the EEGs too - you did have a recent spell, and you need to know what is going on for your own safety Miss! If you get the new imaging make sure they compare them.

I have to wonder about those docs at NYU.  They seem to be looking for zebras when the obvious answer is horses.

And even if they're doing exactly what they should be doing, it's still worth it to go ahead and do the testing.  Something may show up now that didn't show up a year ago.

Yeah, what every one of the respondents above said.  God bless, my friend, & happy testing.

Hi Sunny!

I vote with all the rest; it would be good to get the tests!  Things change, and this neuro seems to be interested in finding answers.  If you like him, that must mean he listened and understood you.

I'm very happy that you'll be back here with us more often.  I can't believe I've been here a year and a half!  You've brightened many of my days.

Hugs,

Kathy

Sunny,

Welcome back to Limboland!  I feel your frustration at the repetetive testing, and its expense.  Your neuro does seem to be taking you seriously however, and seems interested.  If you can have the MRIs done on a Tesla 3 they might no longer be negative.

Best of luck to you in escaping Limboland, a maze with no exit.

I did another MRI a couple of months ago just to avoid going to the neuro.

(My orthopedist said I needed to go to neurologist to work up for MS, but I didn't want to do it bc I had done that a few years ago.  I knew they wouldn't find anything.  So I made a deal with my Pcp that I'd only go to neuro if there was something on an MRI)

Well, there were "spots" this time on brain MRI, thus to neruo I had to go.

I agree with everyone else.  Get the tests, they might have changed since the last time.

Goodluck

What a relief this appointment must have been.  He wants to do the battery of tests again, well show him that you are committed to being the cooperative patient.  I think that he will be good for you and most important a local connection to monitoring your condition. Do the test and see what happens.  Since its been a year, you never know what might show up now.

And just to let you know, we need you as much as you need us.  Welcome back.

Hugs galore,

Julie

Wow. Lots of tests. Sounds like a thorough Neurologist. I had an eeg a week ago to check for seizure disorder. It was easy except waking up at midnight with no coffee.

If money is not an issue and you trust the doctor I would be inclined to do the tests.

Wow Sunny! That is amazing that you found this doctor in your own backyard. The tests?  How is the insurance with your job?  If I remember correctly your parents were paying a lot of out of pocket a year ago. I hope you have good insurance if the neuro is going to run all of these tests again.

welcome back - not that you've every really left us!

We'll see you around,
Lulu
