Just a quick summer update here.

Life is full, always is with all the boys all around.  We are supposed to leave Wednesday for vacation to Boston/Cape-cod  to see the family. But...hope we get there.

In about an hour I am taking my 11 year old to the Doc. He is my one child that NEVER complains about ANYTHING EVER. Not a good trait to have, and I don't know why he does this. When he does complain I know it is a real problem.

Found out this weekend, he has been having stabbing shooting pains in the top frontal part of his head for about a month now, they are mainly in the morning, but come off and on through out the day. the pain lasts about 5-30 seconds, and they are becoming more frequent.  He is also having some other issues as well, that I found out after asking him about it. So, I am pretty anxious. I am taking him in about an hour.

Another son thinks he has strep, so maybe we can get a 2 for 1 special?

My tooth is still hurting. I had to cancel my Root canal doc this morning, due to my kids. I saw him last Thursday, as well as my dentist. It is a tooth that had a root canal 4 years ago, and is now very very painful. Neither know what is wrong. Everything looks "fine", so I am antibiotics to see if there is an infection they cant see.

I called neuro Friday, and she told me, this could be MS related, and anything is possible because it is ME, and my face/teeth...TN. So, she said, dont get the tooth pulled (I was telling her that was what I would like to do), and try to antibiotics.

Anyway, I am sorry this is long winded. I am hot and bothered, and pretty nervous about my 11 year old. I know it could be something as simple as just a headache to something pretty bad, which I dont want to jinx anything. One of my other kids has a pediatric neurologist already, so I almost wish we could skip the pediatrician and go right to him.

Thanks for listening,
Michelle

Don't beat yourself up about the accident with your son's friend.  These things happen to kids.  You didn't do anything to cause it and probably couldn't have prevented it, short of not taking them swimming (and where is the fun in that?)

I hope everything turns out okay with your 11 year old.  My (now) 10 year old was having morning headaches for 6 weeks or so last year and I took her to the pediatrician.  His neuro exam of her was normal (thank goodness) but he sent her for a CT and referred her to a neurologist.  The CT was normal and by the time we could get the appointment with the pediatric neurologist, her headaches were gone so I cancelled it.  I hope it all turns out that well with your son!  :)

Hi Michelle,

Boy, you are one busy mom!! Don't fret over a boy getting hurt. It's in their nature (glad 2 of my 3 are girls). As long as his mom is forgiving then let yourself forgive you. She obviously trusts you are you wouldn't be babysitting the baby and the older brother.

You SO need a vacation. Glad Seth's headaches aren't serious. I'm sure they are to him and you as his mom but a clear neuro exam is a great start. Try to relax. I know that's difficult with all the boys but you need some down time.

In the meantime, let us know how the visit goes tomorrow with the ophthalmologist. Get some rest tonight.

Hugs,
Ren

Don't be so hard on yourself, kids are kids and will always be kids and they have little mishaps if life, so as long as they are little all is okay.

I hope you get to the bottom of your son's headaches but I am pleased to hear that they don't think it is anything too serious but you are doing the right thing getting it all investigated.

Try and go on your vacation and relax, it sounds like you need a break!

Hugs to you,
Udkas.

Well Pediatrician said Sinus looked ok. Go to ophthalmologist and see what they think, we have an appt tomorrow. (one of the perks of working for one )

No Joke here. I take my younger boys to the pool this afternoon, with their best friends who are brothers. (ages 6 and 8).  I am sitting there, when the 8 year old comes running up to me and blood pouring down his head. He ran into the slide, due to his goggles on and he couldnt see well.  Quick we packed up, got some ice, and off to the ER we go.  I call his mom, and she if off to meet me.

He will need at least 8 stiches,,,I feel HORRIBLE this happened on my watch. I have his 2 younger brothers home with me now, 6 and 8 months. My hubby just got home, and I am taking a breather here at the computer. What a day.

Guilt is overcoming me, and the baby is here on my lap. I do love him, but am now petrified of dropping him. I do have my brace on, and feel relatively stable. Hope they can stay safe in my watch :(

How on earth do you juggle those 4 boys?  Really 5 boys when you count the biggest one in your house!  I hope everyone can settle in and you have a relaxing trip to MA.

It must be impossible to not overreact to all the various aches, pains and illnesses that come with having a house full of kids.

hugs,
L

Hi all,

Well, back from doc.  She isnt sure what is going on, but doesn't think it is too much of a concern. Her neuro exam was normal, I do feel somewhat relieved.  She wants him to see an ophthalmologist, which is easy, since I work for a pediatric ophthalmologist. She also send him for sinus xrays, which we did and to see her again in 3 weeks, unless headaches go away.

She did just call, I must have missed it by a few minutes, probably about the sinus xrays, so we will see what she has to say.

I do feel relieved, I think. We are going to go swimming later, but Seth, 11 year old, just informed he wont go in the water, because his head hurts "terrible" always in the water. So, maybe it is a sinus problem? Anyway, I think he will be fine.

Thanks for your wishes. Guess I am a bit of a neurotic mom, not usually, but with the brain things I do get nervous. Between my mom having a brain aneurysm when I was younger and my MS, I have become anxious about this stuff.

Thanks again,
Michelle

I even forgot to mention my other sons throat!!!  He asked me about it in the car on the way home. I will just watch it, there is always Urgent care in MA if needed, right?!

So sorry you have even more on your full plate. I'm sending positive thoughts your way for your son to have something minor, no more strep in your house and for the antibiotics to fix your tooth so you can enjoy your vacation!!!!

Let us know how things go.

Now I know why the wisdom gods didn't give me more than one male child.  In fact, they knew better than to let me have a sample of each sex available.  You are always so busy Michelle and now more worry and pain on top of it.

I do hope you can still take your vacation.  Make it work if there is any way at all!  You just need to get out of town for a spell and the New England area is perfect right now (isn't it?).

I'll be holding good thoughts for you.
I should be home this afternoon or evening.  Call if you want or just need to vent.

Mary
