Just a vent!!!

I'm visitng my mom and she is supposed to use her scooter but is nervous about it, She lives about 5 hrs from my home and I took the bus here.  I rented a scooter to help her get out and for her to use hers... she is doing better but my legs are so sore and hurt from the bumps on the road..we used it for a few days..which I'm not used to even going out...and felt free for the longest time..but my legs are getting me back now.

The sidewalks have large bumps on them and it wasn't easy at time to cross the roads.  I'm quite depressed to think I might need to use one of these things soon.  Not happy at all...even though I would have freedom abit.. I'd rather stay home.

people just thought you were invisable or they would look...or yell at you to geto\ out of the way...if your in a parking lot to go to a grocery store..that's bad enough when you cant get the scooter through a checkout....................

I don't getit... then people drive the vehicles over the white line and stop for the light...then we cant cross the road..and have to wait longer in the sun...heat... I just can't deal with tis...

So sorry to hear about your adventure.

My mother in law got a scooter and is afraid to use it too.  

Hopefully all your effort will at least get your mom to use it.

We need to educate all those insensitve people at every turn!!

I have a Jazzy Select power chair and it is awesome.  They need to get on it and practice, practice, and more practice.  That's the only way they will get used to it.  I guarantee once they get it figured out you won't be able to keep up with them.  My kids tease me about being able to out shop them now that I have my chair.  

I don't want to be crippled anymore than the next guy but it's what GOD dealt me and it's up to me to accept it and then do something about it.  When I got my chair I got the usual 80% paid and then they waived the 20%.  That adds up to free for me.

Loretta and I meandered around Gatlinburg using her scooter right after she got it.  One night, we forgot to plug it in to recharge.  After two very full days of use, it died on us inside a trinket shop on the main street.  Good thing we'd parked downhill from there.

No, many people won't get out of your way, but most do if they see you, and can discern your intent.  It isn't generally fun, except those few moments when you have a long clear stretch of open road ahead of you.  Negotiating aisles and turns around displays inside trinket shops can be lots of fun, too.

Oh, if you go to Gatlinburg, make sure someone's always with you to scare off the bears.  They don't get into town much, but when they do, it's a safe bet you can't outrun them, especially on your scooter.

I hope you feel a bit better ;-) this is one of the best places to vent... it's just nice to know that we are here for each other..
Hope your legs feel better soon, and am so sorry you had such a bad experience,

I have discovered that I can't use all types of chairs, they work better when they are fitted to your physical  needs.

Have a restful and relaxing week end... It feels good to know that we are being listen too , at least it does to me.

thanks everyone, I feel like this time spent here has helped my mom which is why I'm here...I'll deal with me when I'm at home..

thank you all my friends for being here... I know some people out there might get frustrated at scooters being around,but there are alot of caring and thoughtful people too.. I should have mentioned them as well

guess when venting your not thinking straigt.. I didn't use the scooter today but will tomorrow for a bit...not too long.  and I think you are right about getting one suited to fit your individual needs... i'm not all that comfortable on it and think it would be better when I need on and get one for me.. either a scooter or wheelchair.???  not sure why one or the other but not sure which would be better for me individually??  I will find out more..

thanks for being here... some of you help by getting me to laugh and other by making sense of situations...etc...
