Just to make me feel better

by Worker110, Nov 09, 2007 09:55AM
I went to the doctors and was told I have TMJ.  Well I asked him about my lip feeling like it
draws sometimes and he said not to worry about it, it's just a nerve.  He said to worry if I had
twitches and drawing below the neck.  Well sometimes I do have a little twitch in my leg or
arm.  He said I should see a Neurologist but I think it's anxiety related because the feelings of
when my legs feel like I can feel the blood flow and little twitches got worse ever since he told
me that.

Am I crazy or can this be nerve related?

Having had anxiety for many years, sometime ago, I know that anxiety alone can cause all kinds of things.  I also have MS.

Twitching is caused by nerves endings.  Whether they are from some neurological disorder, can only be answered by a doctor.  If you feel that your symptoms are anxiety related, maybe trial run of an anti-anxiety med, would put your mind at rest.  If the symptoms don't go away, then a follow up maybe be indicated.

And NO you are NOT crazy.

When it comes to our health and our bodies never think your crazy.  You and only you know when something is truely wrong by the way you feel.  Don't ever let a doctor tell you your crazy.  Anxiety, yes, it can cause all types of symptoms.  I agree with Heather on that one.  Maybe some anxiety medication would be good.  It doesn't hurt to try.

I'll be praying,
Carol

I agree with Carol and Heather, anxiety can cause a lot of manifestations in our bodies. After a while of disbelieving I gave in and also thought maybe anxiety was causing a lot of my problems at the moment. In a recent appointment with my Dr I told her of a lot of new neurological symptoms I'm having (which includes constant twitching in different parts of my body) and then suggested I go on anti-anxiety meds. She said no, she wants to wait for my appointment with the Neurologist - after about 4 months of this and other Drs suggesting it could be stress or anxiety I finally gave in and said yeah let's try the anti-anxiety stuff and now she says no because she thinks it's MS and doesn't want to start anything at the moment. Very confusing stuff!

Umm.. my point is try some anti-anxiety meds and see what happens, but DEFINITELY get further tests done if it doesn't relieve it.

Thanks for the answers.  I was on Xanax for over 15 years and stopped taking it almost a year ago.
I have been fine since with no panic attacks but ever since the doctor told me that the little
twitches are a sign of MS (and also signs of other things not serious like anxiety) I have had
them more.  I just feel like I can feel everything going on.  I can feel my heartbeat though my'
whole body.  Mostly when I just sit or lay still.

If I had MS I think I would have other symptoms besides a little nerve flicker here and there.

Yes, a little nerve twitching is not likely to be MS. If you've read a good number of these posts you know that most people here have at least several symptoms, some of which are very troublesome, even disabling. However, seeing a neurologist isn't a bad idea and could set your mind at rest.

You say you haven't had panic attacks in a year. Good! But panic and anxiety aren't the same, so ask yourself how anxious you've been in recent months, and whether your life is stressful at this point. That might provide a clue. You could always go on an anti-anxiety med and see if the twitches go away.

But above all, don't let the doctor's offhand comment about MS and twitches take over your life. You may be a very suggestible person, and that's why things are magnifying now. Much better to immerse youself in something positive and see if you don't feel better.

Good luck.    ess
