Kaleidescope of colors

I was wondering if any of you have been seing colors or flashes of light, behind your eyes when they are closed? Is this normal with MS or should I be worried? I have seen little swirls of white and also kaleidescope colors too. Do I need to go in and have my eyes checked?? Does anyone have some answers, would sure appreciate it.           Karina

I did not mean to ask if it could be MS, I missunderstood.

I found another forum with someone having the same problem

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one. Just started seing the different colors last night. Before that, was just white swirls. Will see eye dr, when finances get straightened out. Am looking at a cheaper apt. on tues. Hope it works out. Then wont have the financial trouble I have now.   Karina

Do see flashing lights, usually white or yellow, sometimes other colors ("fireworks"). Always thought everybody did.

My first episode was in 2004.  My right eye was like looking thru a prism, I was outside cutting grass when it happened and thought I had just gotten something in my eye that caused it.  Well, since the first episode, everytime I get hot this happens and for the whole of 2007 I have had a film like feeling over my right eye.  I had this happen with my eyes opened and closed.

Had a bad occurrence of blurred vision in both eyes, not able to see across the room.  It lasted for a couple of hours and scared the h*** out of me.  This happened last month after being outside and getting too hot.  Hasn't happened since then, just the occasional blurring enough to be annoying.

Haven't been dx yet so I can't claim this is an MS symptom for me, but the more I read all you guys posts the more I am recognizing symptoms I have had for years point toward MS.  I won't know for sure until I can have the tests started.

Be well!

I have had migraines with aura where I've had that before the headache started, but I can't remember if I saw it with my eyes closed.  It was definitely like a kaleidoscope, but not "flashing".

I haven't experienced Optic Neuritis.

Best to be sure and maybe see an ophthalmologist.

Take care!  Pat :)

Hi,
flashing lights can be a sign of optic neuritis.
I have that too - flashes in my peripheral vision - eyes open or closed.  Seems to be common.  I'd mention it to your doctor.

At times I see flashes of light in my peripheral vision. But, that is when my eyes are open.

There is a phenomenon called phosphenes it when you see flashes of light in your vision. I think it is usually brought on by eye movement. It can be associated with optic neuritis.

I'd check with your eye doctor just to be on the safe side.

Good luck.

I've always seen colors and flashing when I close my eyes.  You mean that's not normal?
