LP headache and fever

Hello everybody!

on Monday i got an LP, not too bad. Today during the VEP I was hit by a very bad headache and nausea. I think it is post LP headache because it goes away if I lay down. I also have a low grade fever (100F). My neuro can not see me today so my only option is do nothing or go the very expensive route of ER.  Advil does nothing. If not for the slight fever, I would just lay down for another day and then go to my neuro to get a blood patch. Did any of you have this issue, and do you think is it a big deal that I seem to be getting a fever?
Thank you for reading my post,
Laura

Stay flat and drink LOTS of liquids, especially with caffeine. If your fever gets gets worse or your headache becomes unbearable go in for a blood patch! I had a HORRIBLE headache/backache for about a week but it took about 2 weeks for it to completely go away.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

Sounds like the LP headache. Also drink lots of caffeine. The fever could be due to pain. My temperature rises when I am in pain. Mine hit the third day after the LP.

Thank you everybody. I feel less stressed now that Alex mentioned that fever could be due to pain. It is very comforting hearing from you all, since you know how this feels.

I'll take it easy for now,

How is your fever and headache?  LP's rarely cause infections but it is a possibility.  Go to the ER if your fever does not subside when you lay down and the headache lessens

Error on the side of caution on this one.

Isi,

Hi there. Happen to me too. I chose the flat route and it took a couple days, but it did work. Sounds as if it's definitely the leak since it subsides when you are flat.

Keep the fluids in you best you can and stay in bed as long as you can. Once that seals back up and the csf fluid replenishes and balances you'll get back to normal.

So head and neck crushing - I feel for you :(

Hi Laura

You poor girl..it is bad enough having to go through all these blessed tests without having to suffer the side effects and sounds like you have got he LP headache as others suggest. I have been fortunate enough to not have to have an LP and I don't want one ever.

Hope you are feeling better really soon and thinking of you

Best wishes

Sarah

Hi Laura,

So sorry to hear.  I agree with everyone else.  The only thing I have to add is to lay on your stomach and not your back.  My headache went away so much faster after I was given this piece of advice.

Feel better!

Eric
