LP results

Had a repeat LP due to high WBC in first one 6 months ago. My lymphocytes were 95, monocytes 6, Nucleated cells were 8 in this recent one. Is it normal to have these elevated in csf or should I go for second opinion? I have 5 very small old brain lesions and 1 active very small lesion and no spinal lesions. Csf was positive for o bands. They gave me a diagnosis of RRMS. Only symptoms right now is fatigue, heat intolerance, and slight balance problem.

Is she suggesting you see another kind of doctor for the WBC? Sorry about the diagnosis of MS by the way. WBC would not have anything to do with MS I do not think.

She was looking to see if my WBC rise since last LP because it was a concern. She said if they had it probably would be a game changer and not MS possibly could of been Lymphoma , viral, or even Lymes which I've had twice already. But they had dropped slightly since last one. She told that some have a slight evelvated Lymphocytes but not this high.

I agree with ess. I have not heard of any significance of blood levels in the course of MS. THey are using LP's less and less these days for diagnostics. If you had the DX, do you know what your doc was looking for the second time around?

The main purpose of the LP when MS is a possibility is to determine whether there are oligoclonal bands in the cerebrospinal fluid that are not in blood drawn at the same time. If they didn't check for this, the LP will not be useful.

I don't think blood cells in the fluid have much significance regarding MS. You of course could still have MS, but if you're unsure or don't have confidence in your doctors, the best thing to do is to get another opinion.
