Low Grade Fever = Breakthrough Pain

I picked up some kind of viral upper respiratory infection when we came back from the UK.  Plane crud or something.  I'm into my second week of chest tightness with a dry non-productive cough.  I'm guessing viral bronchitis.  It has been tolerable to this point, but now I have a temp that is just a bit above my normal 99.6.  Not really even a fever, but enough that the right side of my face just "lit up" (not in a good way.)  The Trigeminal Neuralgia that started a couple of months ago has been pretty well controlled with 200mg of Tegretol Q8H.  Not now.  even a small increase in body temp has caused the pain to breakthrough.  Not sure if that qualifies as a pseudo-exacerbation or not.

Think I'll try Tylenol as an antipyretic to get the temp down and see if the Tegretol kicks back in.  Do other folks have issues with pain symptoms breaking through with even minor increases in core body temp?

This is exactly what a pseudo-exasperation acts like.  Remeber that you have two things going on, an infection that can actually ramp up the immune system into a true relapse and a fever which can cause a pseudo-relapse.  If this is viral it will have to just run its course.

I started taking Tylenol to control the slight rise in temp.  Seemed to work and got me back down to 98.6.  TN is still acting up.  I'll give it a couple of days and if it is still bugging me, I'll titrate up the Tegretol.

To clarify, I meant they spread into new areas. New things show up with a fever, often in sequence from the previous episode. I'm probably not making a lot of sense, so will stop with that. lol

Mine spread. And the old ones do light up.

Yes!

I think high temp from over heating (hot days, exercising etc) causes temporary sx but fever and viral are common for stetting off relapses. Get the temp down!!!
